The Fosters- Ooh, what a twist! And a hilarious ending! So Callie and Brandon come back the morning after their tryst, ready to out themselves since Callie thinks her sending that recording to Rita will tank her adoption.
But they come back, and Rita's there, and they're all acting like Callie's adoption is a done deal! Callie's confused and asks Rita about it. Rita did hear the recording, but she's keeping mum because she thinks its in the past. I was a little confused at what exactly happened, but I want to say she didn't need to use the recording because she finally managed to convince Carmen to tell the truth by saying its not cool to fuck over your friends?
So yeah, Callie stresses about it the whole ep, but Brandon says it was an honest mistake, they thought she wasn't going to be adopted, but they can just forget about it so she can finally become a Foster.
Heh, they throw another wrench in the works, by having the social worker say the judge saw Callie's video and that she needs to apologize. Callie refuses too, because the other Foster kids who saw the video need to know they have a voice. Indeed, there are a bunch of kids there in the court room to support Callie. So Callie says she didn't mean to offend the judge, but kids like her need to feel they have a voice, that the system is flawed but they can change things. The judge respects that, and big twist, Callie FINALLY gets adopted.
Other stuff- a sort of Jonnor breakup? Connor's dad catches them making out shirtless, and Lena gives Jude the talk, but it becomes clear to Connor that his dad is still not okay with it. So he wants to go to LA to live with his mom. Jude is hurt at first, but then he encourage Connor to go where he can be himself.
Also, its Lena's parents 40th anniversary. Lena thinks they should cancel since thinks are extremely awkward between her and Stef right now, but Stef says it'll be way more suspicious if they cancel last minute. Monty also admits she's in love with Lena, but Lena shuts that down real quick. Then Stef has a breast cancer scare, and I think they're in a better place relationship wise? Oh, and Lena and her parents reconcile with her half brother.
Also, Mariana demonstrates her nice singing voice by singing the Captain and Tennille classic, "Love Will Keep Us Together" and trying to get back together with Mat. She's done apologizing for what she did and she's not going to beg anymore, if he doesn't want her anymore, that's it. And he says fine, its over! Whoops.
In the end, after Callie's adoption, the kids have a surprise for the moms! There's this strange dude in the kitchen. Who is apparently Jesus! HA! I like how they're faces were like, "Who the eff is this?!" Like did the actresses not know there was going to be a new Jesus and this was a legitimate look of confusion? And I like how Mariana is acting like this new dude is the same guy who played her twin the past few seasons.
I guess this guy is here to stay though, because new Jesus mysteriously mentions he can't go back to wrestling school for some reason. I am curious what happened to warrent the change though. Did the actor want off? Did the showrunners not want him anymore? And was he slated to die in the season premiere, but they changed their minds?
Things that don't get resolved: the mystery of whether AJ's brother was the one driving the car. I mean, AJ and Mike are there for Callie's adoption, so they are in the ep. But I guess we'll have to wait until the latter part of the season to see what happens and how it affects Mike and AJ's relationship.
