TV commentary:

PLL- Hmm, so we get some answers, and a change in the status quo. Oh, and some good news! So the liars get grabbed and held prisoner in some creepy lair. And who's also being held prisoner? Mona! She's dressed up and acting like Ali, which weirds the Liars out, but they soon realize she's playing for the cameras lest A turn on torturous noise and starve her. The Liars experience the noise first hand, and you have to feel awful for Mona, because apparently she was being horribly tortured for months now.

In any case, the girls do manage to get one over on A and make it topside, too bad they're still stuck behind an electric fence in the middle of nowhere. They do learn one piece of important info though- they see a vid of Mrs. Dilaurentis talking to two boys, telling them to say hi to their baby sister. Wait, so are they implying A is a twin of Jason named Charles?! (as the weird phrases in the note the Liars found translate into something-something Charles Dilaurentis)

Also, if A is Ali's secret brother, isn't it a bit incestuous how obsessed he is with her?

But yeah, changes to the status quo- the boys have no choice but to bring in Spencer's parents into it. So they're in the gang now? Uh oh though, Andrew has been spying on them (or at least spying on the brew) and overhears a convo they have with Melissa on the phone, possibly letting her in on things too?

And, they all may have managed to convince Tanner that A is a real person and the girls are innocent and being held captive. (which, not to sound like a total creeper, but a guy kidnaps 5 nubile teen girls and all he does is make them hang around together and play out prom and stuff like that?) And the footage they find also shows Ali is innocent of murder, since Mona is alive, and thus no murder took place!

PoI- Intense episode tonight! First things first, Iris the psychiatrist lets Reese go as her patient, recommending another therapist to take over. He thinks he like freaked her out or something, because apparently he's an oblivious dumb-ass and anyone can see its because she's totally into him and continuing to be his therapist will just lead to trouble. But hey, they kiss in the end.

The case of the week (well one of them) had Katheryn Winnick playing a hot bounty hunter chick after some guy who we find out later killed her brother. Somehow, Harper also ends up getting involved. After the case is resolved, Reese figures out that Harper has actually been getting texts from the Machine, helping her out. Which, cool, is the machine recruiting? I'm all for that. Particularly since most of the competent people they seem to meet end up being hot chyx. Like can it start trying to contact this Frankie chick? And Dani? And Brooks? And start bring Zoe back into the mix!

Anyways, the meat and potatoes of this ep has to do with Finch and Root, and like I said, its intense. So, Decima is close to finalizing their deal with Beth and getting her algorithm. So Finch wants to put his plan into motion. Install a trojan on her laptop that will infect Samaritan and give them info that they could use against Samaritan. The problem is, after he has breakfast with her and decides to put his plan into motion, her number shows up. Also, Root appears, wanting to know what's up. Eventually, she figures out he's up to something and eventually is forced to tell her his plan.

At first he thinks maybe its a Samaritan thing. But then when Root and Finch are spying on Beth, they see her having an argument with her ex-husband. Eventually, Root convinces the Finch her number was because of the ex-husband, and he prolly saw her with him and that's also why his office is trashed. Eventually, Beth sends her hubbie packing and Root is all, "See, everything is fine!"

You'd think Finch would argue it couldn't be, since they didn't really intervene, and why would her number come up and then be solved through no intervention on their part? The machine plays these scenarios out, and thus it would only change if they did something.

But he does figure it out, he figures Root is the threat, and she admits it. If he installs the trojan, Samaritan will figure it out quickly, trace it to his professor identity, and kill him. She already lost Shaw, she can't lose him too. At first, Finch thinks she's doing this, trying to save his life, on the machine's orders. But nope, this is all her, the machine is willing to sacrifice Finch for a win. But Root will not abide.

She's going to poison Beth, but in a way that's as painless as possible, for Finch's sake, and she was going to knock out Finch so he doesn't have to stress about it before it happens. But, Finch is crazy and defeating Samaritan is too important to him. He swallows all the poison. Root tries to call an ambulance, but Finch vows to refuse treatment, is he going to let himself die unless Root swears to not kill Beth. (Heh, isn't that kinda like holding your breath until you get your way?)

So she does, but the next day, when Finch tries to see Beth, she's furious. Apparently, Root sent an e-mail from his account, trying to discredit her work. Don't forget, when they first met, they had differing opinions. So she thinks maybe he was doing some sort of long con.

Back at base, Finch asks why Root did that, and she tells him again, he's more important. And aw, she heartbreakingly tells him its okay if he doesn't want to be her friend anymore, at least he's alive. Finch does get what she means, and gives her a reassuring hand on the shoulder, but tells her he can't see her for a while- he'll need space to get over it.
