OUAT- Cool twist on the Little Mermaid stuff. So we finally find out about Ursula's past, and her connection with Hook. In the Enchanted past, young Ursula had a beautiful voice, like her mother. Her father wanted to use that voice like a siren and lure men to their deaths. But Ursula refused, because she didn't want to taint the last thing left she has of her mother. So, she runs away and is singing at a tavern where Hook is. He recognizes her voice, and she tells her tale. Touched by her story, he does agree to take her wherever she wants, to get away from her father.
But, on his way back to the ship, he's caught by Poseidon's men, and Poseidon makes him a deal, he gives Hook an enchanted shell which will steal Ursula's voice. In return, Poseidon will give him a vial of squid ink, which will paralyze even the strongest of beings (cool callback to the previous seasons, showing us how Hook learned about squid ink). But, Hook immediately goes to Ursula and shows her the shell, telling her he would never take her beautiful voice, and making a deal with her- she goes and steals the squid ink for him, and he'll take her where she wants.
She does, but Poseidon shows up, because he's a freaking deity and you can't fool him like that. He confronts them and destroys the ink, and angry at losing his chance for revenge, he steals Ursula's voice. Disgusted by humans, Ursula returns to the sea. Poseidon wants the shell, but Hook threatens to destroy it and sends him away. Which, I just said Poseidon is a god, he can't get a shell out of a mere mortal's hands? And the sea is his domain, couldn't he just bide his time and destroy Hook and his ship when the shell isn't in Hook's hands?
But its moot, because Ursula steals her father's trident and vows to be the sea witch, terrorizing the seas.
In the present, Regina manages to sneak a message to the heroes, saying Gold is back and they're holed up in Gold's cabin. So they go to Belle's shop to ask for the dagger, but they quickly figure out the Belle was tricked by faux-Hook. Hook finally fesses up to knowing Ursula, saying he thinks he can turn her by giving her back her happy ending, since he's the one who took it away.
He secretly meets with Ursula (calling to her with a conch only she can hear, so the Queens and Rumpel are unaware), and offers to give her back her voice if she'll tell him the secret part of Gold's plan that Rumpel has hinted at but Regina hasn't been able to suss out. She agrees, and he says the shell is in the Jolly Roger. So, she uses her magic to retrieve it, but of course it isn't that easy. They find out the ship has been shrunk into a bottle.
Since Will has been to Wonderland, and is familiar with thinks shrinking and growing, they ask him for help, and he manages to give them something which will grow the ship back to normal. They get the shell, but the voice won't return to Ursula. She thinks its because she's a villain and things don't work out for them. So, deal's off. But Hook, wanting to protect Emma, pulls a gun on her, but Ursula easily disarms him with her tentacles and dumps him into the water. He's rescued by Ariel, who explains that Blackbeard had been using the Jolly Roger to terrorize Arendelle, so Elsa shrunk it, but Ariel accidentally got caught up in the magical wake since she too was fighting Blackbeard.
The last time Ariel saw him, he had screwed her over, but she had heard of him doing hero stuff since, so she's giving him the benefit of the doubt and hears his tale. When he talks about Villains not getting their happy endings, she says, maybe its because they make poor decisions, not because of fate. They hatch a plan, she uses her dimension hopping ability to retrieve Poseidon.
Meanwhile, the Charmings are attempting to retrieve August while Cruella is alone watching him, and they manage to knock her out. But Ursula returns before they can escape. Lucky for them, so does Hook, with Poseidon. Hook tells her the shell didn't work because it needs the person who enchanted it to do so. So Poseidon releases her voice, and father and daughter are reunited and all is forgiven. (But ha, I got a kick of how as her voice traveled in the air, it was the tune Ariel sang in the movie when Ursula told her to sing for her)
A deal is a deal, after they get away and Poseidon and Ursula make their way back to their realm, Ursula tells Hook the plan. They can't just find the Author and have him rewrite their stories, not so long as the author exists. Gold plans to corrupt Emma, which perturbs Hook.
Other stuff, August tells everyone the Author is behind a door. At first, we think that page with the door is a picture of what it looks like. So Gold, Mal, and Regina search for the door in that one house to no avail. When Regina shows up after the rescue, pretending to be going to retrieve the page for team Evil, August tells Henry and his moms that the author is indeed behind the door, and he wasn't lying (during his interrogation, Gold whammied him so that his nose growing when he lied started happening again) when he didn't know where the door was... at the time. But now that he knows where the page is, he does- its not just a page, that is the actual door.
Oh, also Regina has a weird dream that she tells to Emma- where Robin comes back, but they're attacked by her evil self. Emma thinks maybe it just the whole subconscious worry that her old self will return and destroy the progress she's made at being good. But Regina thinks not, as in the dream, she felt as if her evil self was trying to protect Robin. So, she wants Emma to find him.
Also, Hook confesses his worry about villains not getting happy endings, because he was a villain. So, he's worried one day his will be taken away. Emma's all, "Oh, you got your happy ending!" Yes, dull stone, you! He's freaked that one day karma will catch up and he'll lose her.
