TV commentary:
Legend of Korra- Great way to end the series. I'm surprised at how resilient the colossus was. Like I totally thought Meelo's plan was going to work. But it didn't, and heh, it seemed like they wrecked as much of the city as the giant robot did trying to take it down. I mean, between trying to drop a building on it and their attacks basically drawing giant cannon fire. Heh, and even after all that, the only casualty was Asami's dad.
Which, did he have to die? When he ejected her, its not like it seemed like he was still handling the controls, the cutting seemed done! He just sat their resignedly, telling his daughter he loved her as he accepted his fate. It seemed like he could eject too.
But yeah, nice to see everyone get to be a hero. Not just the effort by everybody to take down the colossus and defeat Kuvira, but even Pema just controlling the crowd of refugees and Prince Wu getting the badger moles to help.
It was a very action packed ep, though its interesting how they got earth benders to be able to mimic other benders moves, what with Bolin doing the lava bending thing to have the flying hot rock disc to give him fire bending like techniques, and Kuvira using liquid metal to mimic water bending.
In any case, of course Korra takes Kuvira in alive, and shows her the errors of her ways, that she was acting out because she was scared. So in the end, Kuvira turns herself in and accepts any punishment they want.
Her last ditch effort to defeat the avatar though, by using a spirit vine cannon directly hooked up to the spirit swamp in the middle of the city ends up creating a new spirit gate in Republic City. So there's that, and I'm surprised no one's worried about any ramifications from this. Also, Prince Wu steps down and abolishes the monarchy to make the Earth Kingdom a republic of states.
You know what I'm going to talk about now though. First, nice to see Varrick and Zhu Li get together. "Do you want to do the thing with me for the rest of our lives?" AW! Like if you told me the series would end on their wedding, I'd be skeptical.
And next, Korrasami!!! I mean, c'mon, to paraphrase Bridesmaids, what woman gives another woman a trip to the Spirit World?

But yeah, they don't canonically say they're lesbians, but that ending is about as close as they can actually get on a show like this. I mean, they go away on a trip together, Spirit Portal hand in hand, staring into each others eyes as the screen goes bright! I understand reading too much into things, but be real, like the creators weren't intentionally using that imagery to make them seem all couple-y? If it was a guy and girl, there would be no doubt that's what they were hinting at!
So yeah, it was a pretty good series finale even without that, and it totally makes up for the lack of Zutara at the end of the original Avatar series.
