TV commentary:
Legend of Korra- Holy cow, is it me, or was that season finale pretty brutal? Like there was some pretty dark stuff there, particularly for kids. I mean, some of it cuts away, so its off screen, but its still kinda horrific! So yeah, the rest of the Red Lotus other than Zaheer end up dying in pretty awful ways.
First, we have P'Li (Is she a giantess, or is Zaheer short?). We get some backstory on her, how Zaheer saved her from being turned into a living weapon under the control of a brutal warlord. So they're all "I love you" to each other, so of course I immediately thought, "Well, she's toast!" And she was! She ends up taking on the Beifong sisters. And just as about she's about to blast Lin, Suyin metal bends a helmet or chest plate on to P'Li's head just as she's about to shoot. So basically, she freaking blew her head off! Like, obviously, we don't see that, but wow, that's pretty freakin sick.
As for the rest of them, so their plan was to poison Korra with a powerful venom that would force her into the Avatar state and then kill her then, so the Avatar line would end forever. Which sounds like a stupid plan to me, because it involves putting Korra into the Avatar state. I guess they were cocky, and thought the venom would weaken her enough so they could coup de grace her. It does not, and so Korra breaks free and has a knockdown drag out fight with Zaheer, because she's enraged as she thought her father was killed (more on that later). Actually, eventually she succumbs, and Zaheer is about to airbend the air out of her again, when Sally Draper gets the rest of the air benders to team together and create a huge vortex that even he can't overcome, and so they take him alive and rescue Korra, Suyin metal bending the poison out of her.
But yeah, while that happened, the brothers take on Ming-Hua and Ghazan. Mako eventually pulls off some electricity to fry Ming-Hua as she's in the middle of a huge pool of water. I'm not sure if she was able to survive that, or if the shock killed her. Even if it didn't, she probably died when Ghazan took himself out- since Mako had taken care of Ming-Hua, he had time to help Bolin (who is now a lava bender, making the fight against Ghazan more even) and overwhelm Ghazan. But, Ghazan was never going to go to prison again, and so he basically melted the cave all around him, which again, is a pretty effed up way to go. Bolin and Mako escape, but since Ming-Hua was below them, if she didn't die from the shock, she probably got melted as well.
So yeah, we have one person have their head blowed up, another possibly electrocuted to death, and if not, she got burned up in lava like the other person. That's pretty freaking dark for a teen show!
Anyways, hopefully this isn't the end, because they can't end it there with what happened! So, they get the poison out of Korra before it kills her, but basically she's still pretty hurt and confined to a wheel chair, and its not clear if and when she'll recover. So the show can't end with her being a cripple! With the Red Lotus actually being a society, and most likely ready to continue to cause chaos, its bad since the avatar isn't there to enforce the law. But, Tenzin, thankful for what Korra did to save them, basically tasks the air benders with being nomads again, wandering the world to help people and fight the red lotus (and other threats)
So technically, if this was the end, it could be considered good. Korra might recover. And its not like the world is left undefended, what with the air nation taking up the reigns! So one can assume it works out. Still, I'd rather have another season.
Other weird stuff, what the hell was up with that random metalbender chick who saved Tonraq? He's still married to Korra's mom, right? They made it seem like she was into him. Hell, I'd like to see another season just to see what's up with that!
Heh, dang, so Sally Draper had to shave her head for the tattoos? I thought it would be funny if Kai would be all, "Oh.. so now you're a bald tattoo-ed up girl now? Um, yeah, I changed my mind".
