Finding Carter- Woah, David is twisted! So Grant tells his sisters about the affair. Gabe admits he knew for three years- he never tried to stop it because after his mom died of cancer, it was like the light went out in him. Then one day, it came back on, and Gabe quickly realized it was because of Elizabeth. Kyle apparently really loves her.
And so the girls confront Liz. They implore Liz to fess up to David, and so she does. David of course says he knew, and claims he was fine with it because she knew she would come back to him, that she really doesn't love Kyle as much as Kyle loves her. Which from what we've seen so far, I think is true. I think Kyle was a distraction for her, and she's not nearly invested in them as he is. So, David seems forgiving, everything's cool, right?
Nope, because as soon as he learns the kids know, he flips out all embarrassed and "they pity me, how can they respect me?" Which, only a loser says that. But Elizabeth is very apologetic, and says she'll do anything to make it up to him. And so he tells her to move out, which she did.
Which, what the eff, when the kids come back later, he's all, "Oh we worked it all out!" making them think everything is okay. Then he drops the bomb that their mom moved out, and they're righfully all, "What the effin shit? Then why would you say 'we worked it out!' in a nice and happy tone?"
(And aw, she wrote the kids letters, with Carter's saying that her proudest accomplishment was to get Carter to not hate her anymore! Which is indeed a pretty damn big accomplishment given how nasty Carter has been to her in the beginning of the series)
Hilariously, things fall apart pretty quickly- they're late for school (Doesn't David stay at home, why didn't he wake them up), the girls ditch to get high and forget to pick up Grant.
So, and this is where David demonstrates he can be a manipulative bastard. The girls ask Liz to come back, and she's all "this is what he wants!" so Carter offers to talk to him. He "leaves" a half empty bottle of liquor in his office, making them think he's gone on a bender. So Carter talks to him, and says he's going to divorce Liz but frames the divorce not as him being mad at Liz for cheating, but because he's a failure as a husband. He only had one good book, and all his other endeavors failed. He might have a second book in him, but he promised Carter he would never write a book on her when we know he's already writing it. Which, ooh, what an evil prick!
Basically, he manipulates Carter into getting Liz to come back and work on things by allowing him to write the book. Only by just making drunken allusions, he makes her think its her own idea! So Liz comes back and takes a leave of absence from her job, and we find out she apparently became a cop long after Carter was kidnapped. Which makes Lori a little less crazy. Because I always thought, that's pretty effin bold, kidnapping a cop's kid. But apparently Liz became a cop in order to try and find her daughter.
Anyways, things finally seem good with the family. Until Carter has a conversation about Liz and the phone call to Lori comes up. Liz basically tells what she heard, that David was all, Carter's not coming, so eff off. Of course, he had made Carter think he arranged a meeting for Lori to say goodbye, one that she never showed up for. Again, manipulative bastard! He waited there with Carter for a meeting he knew wouldn't happen. He played the part well, even being the one to say to give Lori more time.
Needless to say, Carter's pretty upset!
