TV commentary:

Person of Interest- A Root ep, you know how much I love those since she's so friggin hot! Also, I'm not sure if I'm reading too much into things, but is she flirting with Shaw? I mean, I can believe her as a lesbian- like I couldn't tell if the flashback to when she was young, if she was avenging that one girl because they were really good friends, or because she liked-liked her. Anyways, this ep, Root learns pride comes before a fall. She got cocky because she was doing so good, only to have things blow up in her face when Decima employed a countermeasure against her- a signal blocker which cut her off from the machine.

Luckily, the team was there to back her up and Reese saved her. So to counter the countermeasure, she has Finch modify some sort of hearing aid thingie, which she gets an ear surgeon to install. Which, it does keep her in contact even if she loses access to a phone, but wouldn't the machine still need a signal to talk to her? Like why wouldn't the jammer work on that thing too? But whatever, now Root has a permanent attachment to the machine.

So the number of the week is some former wall street guy turned janitor who Decima needs to break into some lab to retrieve a chip that Samaritan can run on. Vigilance intercepts the communique and is thrown in the mix too. Its interesting, because both vigilance and the team have a vested interest in stopping Decima, but since Decima doesn't have the whole story, and they're kinda heavy handed in their approach, it can't help but be a three way fight.

It ends up being personal for Root, because she later finds out that the guy is traumatized because his friends were murdered when someone shot up their workplace after they made a killing during the housing market crash. Turns out, she was the one who hired the guy for some banks who wanted them out of the picture. So, she's feeling guilty. Particularly since he's become chill about it since, saying there's a divine plan. Which of course, she's confesses to Harold she felt totally sick about, because he thinks his friends died, that he got shot because "all things happen for a reason" and its for the greater good in the end, when she basically just hired someone to kill them and didn't even give them a second thought back then.

In the end, she doesn't tell the guy the truth, because it would only be to assuage her guilt, whereas he needs to believe that his friends' deaths weren't senseless.

But yeah, Root does have a heart- she says she's doing all this, working with the machine to prevent Samaritan from being born to save the rest of the world. Including them- because she says thousands will die within the first 30 minutes of Samaritan coming online, the first four being her, Harold, Reese, and Shaw. Heh, what, does Fusco not matter?

Again, she tries to convince Harold to not just sit on the sidelines, because he knows the Machine is powerful, like a nascent god. And how horrible might the world become if another one came online and these two gods began fighting?

Like I said though, she's becoming less cold though, not just in being less lethal, as we've seen in the past. This ep, she had the chance to stop Decima from getting the chip or saving the number. She chooses the guy, getting wounded in the process. So, while she prolly earned the gang's respect, Samaritan is that much closer to coming on line.

But yeah, I do like the whole three faced conflict of Team Machine vs Decima vs Vigilance. (actually, four-faced if you count Control and the government) Of course, the gang is lean and mean, and Decima is a multi-national, so they have tons of resouces. But where the hell does Collier get all these nameless believers? I mean, I get there are a lot of pissed off people like him, but they do seemed to get killed off a lot. There are that many people crazy enough to take up arms for this cause?

Interesting though, the threat assessment at the end- the machine is calculating the threats to the gang, which it refers to "assets". It also counts Hersh and Control as assets, and I guess they are. They handle the major threats, whereas the machine team takes care of the irrelevants, with Root sent off to "other" projects. Its also tracking the threat to Collier. And they list a "Maria Martinez". Who the hell is that?!

EDIT: Okay, saw someone did a screen grab of the second time Decima attempted to block Root's connection to the Machine. (Oh, Cochlear Implant, that's what that thing I referred to as a "hearing aid thingie" is called) So, if cellular, wifi, and bluetooth are out, it can contact her via "infrasound"? What does that mean? It transmits ultra low-frequency sound the implant can pick up. Which is fine, but where does it transmit the sound from? I guess the machine has its hands in just about everything, but that still seems like there could be situations where the machine can't emit sounds.

And if the signal is cut, how does it contact whatever it uses to transmit? Or can it do something crazy with electrical current in local wires (which obviously can't be blocked, being "wired") to create a low hum that it uses to communicate?
