TV commentary:
Supernatural- Cool ep last night. Is it me, or when Lassiter is in something and he has the beard thing going, it makes him look all grizzled and bad-ass? Anyways, Lassie is playing Cain here. I kinda liked the idea of him being someone Crowley was scared of, so I was kinda disappointed later that Crowley was just playing it up to get Dean to be more assertive and show he's someone wothy of Cain's mark. I mean, I'm sure Crowley is afraid of Cain, because he's not stupid, but I liked it better when he seemed pissing his pants scared.
Anyways, turns out Abel was being seduced by Lucifer, so Cain offered himself up instead- his soul in hell for Abel's in heaven. But, Lucifer would only agree if Cain was the one who sent him there. So he did, became a knight of hell, created the other knights, but then he fell in love with a woman who knew what he was and loved him anyways. He killed the other knights, except Abbadon (who seems to have a thing going on with Cain), who had possessed Cain's wife Collette and got him to kill her He would've gone after Abbadon, but his wife made him promise no more killing.
So, Crowley knew they were being followed, and that Abbadon's minions would trace them to Cain, and that Dean would prove what a bad-ass he is by ganking a few of the demons while Cain watched. As such, Cain sees him as a kindred spirit and offers him the Mark of Cain, which is the only way the blade will work for him. He tries to warn Dean about the consequences, but as usual, these Winchester boys don't think that far ahead. All Cain wants in return, after he kills Abbadon, is to kill him (Cain) too.
It was bad-ass though, for Cain to send Dean and Crowley away after visiting his wife's grave and telling her to look away from him up there, and then locking those dozens of demons with him and killing them all. Oh, the whole Crowley knowing they were being tracked did end up getting some ripped hunter chick whom John once slept with killed. Which, the fact they mentioned John boned her, does she have a child who will show up later? Maybe looking for revenge for their dead mother?
In the Sam and Cas part of the ep, Cas tries to extract the remaining grace of Gadreel from Sam, but his time being human has taught him the ends don't justify the means. So he stops before he ends up killing Sam, telling Sam its not worth his death to find Gadreel, they'll find him some other way.
Which is interesting because you have all these things going on- the war between Crowley and Abbadon over hell, and Metatron and his own machinations, and the angels fighting each other. And its like Dean's focused on the hell part, while Sam and Cas are looking to the heaven part. Which frankly, either side seems to big to face, and they're split up taking on different sides on their own.
