The Originals- Wow, lots of reveals this ep. One big thing- Sophie and Marcel used to be an item! (Geez, is everyone effing anyone on this show?) Apparently, she was kinda a black sheep of the family, not caring for witch-y tradition, and instead running off and partying and possibly studying to become a cook. But then Jane Anne tells her that the elders had voted and decided to do the "Harvest". Which Sophie was opposed to, and with good reason.
They pick 4 young with girls for "The Harvest", which what the eff, its called "The Harvest", they really didn't see what was coming was coming? Well, I guess they told the girls they would be put to sleep, only to resurrect later more powerful during "The Reaping". But what the frick, the fact that they use the term resurrect should have set off alarm bells in their heads! So, they were expecting a little prick in their palm, and then they'd fall asleep, but to no surprise, what the really get is a cut throat.
Needless to say, obviously Davina is one of the girls, and another was her best friend, who happens to be a Deveraux (Jane Anne's daughter). So Sophie was trying to stop it, letting some of the details slip to Marcel, but more importantly, telling priest guy Kieran- who happens to be Cami's uncle and head of the "human faction". The witches, vampires, and humans have a truce going on, where the humans look the other way as long as the other supernaturals don't get too crazy. I mean, we knew some of this, but we get more details. But yeah, since he represents the humans, he's not too keen on the witches getting more power, particularly if it involves slaughtering innocent teenage girls.
Anyways, the witches hexed Kieran's nephew and Cami's brother to distract him, hence the massacre. He was so distraught he told Marcel to take care of it, which he did (heh, I was wondering how the vamps got into the cemetery since it was warded, but they explain it in the end that that was Sophie and Jane Anne's doing). Then he hides Davina off in the church. So it turns out the witches are desperate to find Davina because they want to kill her to finish the ritual before the end of the Reaping.
There are several consequences of this- 1) The ritual appeared to be working. As a girl was killed, the power in her was transferred to the next, and so forth. So since Davina is still alive, she has a huge amount of power coursing through her veins. 2) Davina is pissed! The witches betrayed her, tried to kill her- she didn't trust that she and the other girls would come back. As far as she's concerned, the witches were just killing the girls to get more power for themselves. So, she's just playing the waiting game, supposedly, if she just stays alive until after the reaping, the witches will lose all their power. To her, that will be a big F U to them for lying and trying to sacrifice her and killing her best friend. 3) Turns out Sophie has her own agenda- all this, getting the Originals against Marcel was to find Davina so she can be killed. Apparently she believes in this ritual now, that the girls will come back to life if the ritual is completed. Of course, I'm not sure why she does- yes, magic was flowing from one girl to the next, but how does she know how all that will turn out? I mean, I think the witches lost any trust that the ritual works as they claim it does when they caused Cami's brother to kill himself. (Though I suppose we don't know how that really went down- Sophie saw Agnes do something to the kid, and then later he killed a bunch of his fellow seminarians and himself, maybe something else happened between then) But, I'm also confused since she seems like she is not with those other witches, but don't they have the same agenda?
Anyways, Elijah makes a deal with Davina after learning the story- he'll give her his mom's journals to help her control her power if she agrees not to disappear. And she acquiesces, faking a magical display when Marcel tries to move her to a different location, something powerful preventing her from leaving. So she stays where she is and Elijah is free to go (and Marcel is unaware that Davina and Elijah talked and all this business has been aired). The bad thing is is that Kieran is none too pleased that she's still there, and that her continued presence will strain the truce between the humans and vampires.
Other stuff, Marcel, the Bekster, and Klaus spend most of the ep thinking they're distracting the other- the Mikaelsons distracting Marcel from finding the truth out about the massacre in the woods (Sophie had to recover the dead witches and bury them properly or that would cause bad juju with the witches' magic), while Marcel was keeping them busy so they wouldn't know he was moving Davina. Which, Klaus was wanting to reclaim New Orleans for his family, so he's against Marcel, but since the witches manipulated the Mikaelsons into going to NOLA, and both the Mikaelsons and Marcel seem to care for Davina, and their history together, will they be against each other for long?
And I think there's a heavy implication that the wolves protecting Hayley are her family?
Ravenswood- That was unexpected! Well, it was pretty obvious that was what was going to happen from the promotional pics, but show wise, I'm betting that's not where many people were expecting the show to go. I mean, PLL, despite the amount of crazy going on, its "mundane" crazy. This show is apparently going the supernatural route. So, the gang survives, except for Miranda, who dies! Which was unexpected given she's a main cast member. But I guess she's still around, as a ghost, trapped in her uncle's house. Like I said though, with the promo pics showing everyone else at the hospital but her, and the wording of the episode synopsis- "Caleb sees someone he never expected to see" (Miranda, because she died!) and "Miranda adjust to new circumstances" (Duh, being dead and all!), I suspected that's the route they were taking.
But since only one of the 5 died, it seems like they may be going the Final Destination route, what with the rest of them having a bunch of near death experiences throughout the ep. The one thing I can't believe Remy isn't worried about is her mom! If 5 kids die for every soldier from Ravenswood that miraculously survives, isn't she worried that if it doesn't get the sacrifice, something might happen to her mom?
Oh, and it turns out that Luke and Olivia's dead dad was the mayor- and the reason Luke thinks his mom killed him is because he found a letter from his dad, which he interpreted to mean his mom was having an affair. But the way it read, and the way this town is, it may not mean that at all! But yeah, Olivia and Luke are chalking up the weird occurrences to being pariahs and people playing pranks on them. And as such, Luke doesn't like Caleb hanging around Remy, because he blames him for the danger Remy is in, rather than a supernatural curse.
