So I was all eggcited when I saw there was a new ep of NTSF last night because, Karen Gillan! But last night's ep was just their webisodes strung together into one ep, which is technically new since it had never been aired on TV, and come to find out I have to wait a whole another month to see an ep with her in it.

TV commentary:

Graceland- I think I found this ep more interesting than the pilot, but there's like kinda a schism between the regular show and the ongoing plot. I mean, there's always been a danger there, but for the most part, it seems like fun-time undercover cop hijinks. But the show seems to take a whole different tone when they deal with Mike investigating Briggs.

The rest of the show, he seems like the wise mentor whose ways the new guy doesn't understand, but he's learning. He may be a little reckless and seemingly crazy, but he seems like a good guy. But then whenever they touch upon Mike's secret investigation, its like friggin Training Day, all suspicious and, "Who you've been talking to?" and Briggs turning all scary. Its almost like two shows- normally everyone is all good, until the writers remember, "Oh, Mike is supposed to be investigating this guy!" and they suddenly have him do something pretty shady.

In any case, pretty slick plan with the bullets- I thought it was ridiculous Mike's handler was all, "Remember, you're smarter than him!" Um, the guy just took Mike's idea and went way further with it, using it to close another case in addition to helping out his own! Briggs is clearly smarter than Mike right now. Oh, and while the scene with the teddy bears was bad-ass, and proved Mike has got legit skillz, even if he does seem like the n00b among the rest of the team, he didn't actually prove the worth of the bullets until he shot the bear through the truck. Its like, they set up the bears with bullet proof vests, and Mike misses the first shot, but then he shoots all the vital parts EXCEPT through the vest, which I thought was the point. But I suppose the first part was showing he could shoot really accurately despite the higher kick of the rounds, and shooting through the engine compartment of an old time truck was enough proof of the round's penetrative capabilities.

Hmm, so they said Zatanna was supposed to replace La Grenouille's daughter, but the first girl is still there. I mean, it seems like she's on her way out because she has trouble accepting the one guy isn't coming back, but its kinda weird. Did she get another offer or something? Because usually if they replace a character from the pilot, they didn't like how they turned out, and just write them off between the pilot and the second ep and are all, "Yeah, that person is gone, but here's this other person!" Otherwise it just seems kinda crappy for the actor- its like, "Sorry, we didn't like you enough to keep you, but could you stay for a couple of eps to write your character off?" I suppose she's still getting paid, but I would think it would suck to be hired on a project and not be kept around.
