May. 25th, 2013 01:11 pmSaw Fast and the Furious 6 today. It was tight! And the rumors about the post-credits scene was true! Ah can't wait for F&F7! They finally connect Tokyo Drift to the franchise by having Han's death not be an accident. Turns out the car that hit him did so on purpose, driven by the brother of the bad guy in this one, and played by Jason Statham! Statham in the F&F furious franchise? Its like a meeting of the two car action greats of the oughts/teens!
But yeah, people are all, "How the hell could they make 6, now 7 of these!?" Honestly, they're just enjoyable action movies- cool cars, hot chyx, pulse pounding action. And honestly, as an action franchise, I think they've done a really good job of tying the movies together. I mean, there's been 5 Die Hards, but honestly, other than them being about John Mcclane stumbling onto some crazy heist disguised as terrorism, there's no real connection. You could replace John Mcclane with "Joe Everyman" and its more or less the same.
Its actually kinda ridiculous how much work they put into tying the Fast and Furious films together. And seriously, having seen these in the theater, people friggin love these movies more than you'd expect. Like the post credits scene of the 5th one, which unveiled the big surprise that was the basis for the 6th one. The way people ooh and ah-ed in the theater, its like they found out Bruce Willis is a ghost or Kevin Spacey made that whole story up or Brad Pitt is a figment of Edward Norton's imagination. Seriously, people put that twist up there with those iconic movies.
And then the aforementioned post credits scene, the people in the theater were all "OMG!" Seriously, all those people are going to be seeing 7 when it come out, that scene has friggin guaranteed it.
It is kinda crazy how long this franchise been going though. I mean, the 3rd one didn't even have Brian or Dom (well, he was sort of in it). I think it was the 5th movie that really breathed new life into the franchise, assembling everyone from the previous movies. Because if its one thing people like its Ocean's Eleven Heist-type movies, with the big ensemble cast. So you get the F&F action, with the camaraderie and hijinks of something like Ocean's Eleven.
Some more spoiler-ish commentary. Another twist that people freaked the eff out over was Gina Carano being the secret traitor. Like when Shaw was all, "You coming babe?" and you think he's talking to Letty, but then Riley is all, "You bet!", again the theater was like crapping their pants over the twist. And it wasn't even a big deal, because honestly, her being a mole didn't really figure into the plot. But people loved it!
Oh, and you know Gisele had to die since she wasn't in Tokyo Drift. Like I said, I don't think they were thinking that far ahead, but the twist with Shaw's brother killing Han at the end is one thing, but I actually think her death kinda worked for Han's characterization in the 3rd one. Like he seemed like a kinda sad guy. And he should be, because his totally hot bad-ass Israeli gf died saving his life! Heh, I remember
clevemire or someone talking about when they saw a screening of Serenity in the theaters, and how when Simon got shot, some fan girl screamed, "NO!!" Amusingly enough, the same thing happened in the theater! When Gisele let go of Han's hand so she could draw her gun and shoot the guy behind him to save his life, even though that means she would fall to her death, some guy in the back was all, "NOOOO!!!!"
