Degrassi- Ah, it didn't take that long for Bianca to find out Drew slept with Katie, I'm glad they didn't drag that out. It was a little silly with him being all, "You can't tell!" Because yeah, the girl you just dumped will totally care about not messing up your relationship with the girl you dumped her for! Heh, and how creepy was Katie when she realized she had gotten her revenge?
But it didn't take too long for Drew and Bianca to get back together- he apparently had a concussion when he fell down the stairs at the party, and they actually call back to when he was doing all the fighting last season and got hit hard enough to black out during one of the fights. So, Bianca feels all sorry for him, and him stopping the thief at the mall and passing out sealed the deal. I actually like them as a couple. I don't get too attached to Degrassi pairings though. I mean, I guess its realistic the show doesn't have couples the go the distance and end happily ever after. But its hard to get into a pairing knowing they prolly won't last. Like I'd like to see Fimogen last, but ah'm skeptical.
Its hard to tell who the real "bad guy" is in the whole Becky/Eli thing. I mean, I can see why Eli was annoyed about Becky, she's the new girl, and basically muscled her way into the play. Since he's a pretentious artist type, he thinks all her ideas are trite and prosaic given she's this bubbly, goody goody Christian girl. Well, that and he doesn't think his ideas will be heard because she's kinda intense and it won't be a collaborative effort and she wants everything done her way. And given he wants the play to be "good" for his NYU application, he thinks she'll ruin his chances of putting out a good product to show NYU.
But I'm sure a lot of people are jumping on Becky as the bad guy because she disagrees with Eli's choice to make Juliet a guy since she's super Christian and can't condone something that would promote an "alternative" lifestyle. They're all, "Eff you, you homophobic bitch!" Its like geez, she's just a kid, that's how she was raised, you can't expect her to be all of a sudden fine with it! Plus, she's a new character, maybe her story arc is moving past her prejudices and accepting LGBT folks, don't jump down her throat just yet! This might happen in a later episode, but its not like she's tried to shut down the play down yet or sabotage it, she was all, "I don't agree with this", and quit. That's a fair response, it's like save your hate for when she does something hate-worthy.
I mean, look at it from her perspective- she's a new girl, wanting to get into something in the new school. Yeah, she's either oblivious that Eli doesn't like her ideas, or is being passive aggressive and trying to get Eli to do the play her way. And here basically Eli stole the play out from under her and made it into something she feels she can't be a part of. Now if Eli really did make Tristan "Jules" because he's sticking up for the LGBT kids, good for him. But his cat who ate the canary face makes it seem like he just wanted to do something big that he knew would drive her away.
I'm a little skeptical Snake thought it was an "inspired choice" and told him to go right ahead, because as much as I'd like to believe we live in a world where people are more accepting, I would think he would also be worried about the controversy! Like surely there would be parents (like Becky's for example) who'd be all "You can't have a gay play in HS!" Actually, given her brother is one of those new puck-heads (wait, why is the hockey team such a big deal?) you'd think he'd worry about her parents leveraging that against the play. Interestingly enough, the most "loud-mouthed" mother on the show currently is Adam and Drew's, and given Adam is trans, she wouldn't have any issues against the play. So since she isn't saying anything, Snake is fine with it?
