May. 11th, 2012 12:10 pmFirst Listen Friday! Since there's two episodes, lots of songs this week.
Props:
Because You Loved Me- The Celine Dion song, done by Tina. Its nice to see her get to do stuff!
Flashdance- Rachel and Tina's voices go so well together here. Why haven't they done more songs together?
I Won't Give Up- The Jason Mraz song as done by Rachel. As I said in a previous post, she does this song well.
Mean- Glee, finally doing T-Swizzle. Heh, this one is done by Puck and Coach Bieste, and they don't do a bad job. So are they going to actually have Shannon stand up to Cooter and leave her abusive husband? I'm kinda curious who Puck would be singing this to?
Nationals:
Starships- The Nicki Minaj song, as performed by Wade/Unique and Vocal Adrenaline. This is okay, it would be better if they didn't try to do a choral version of the weird parts of the song rather than skipping those parts altogether like most people who cover the song do.
Pinball Wizard- The classic Who song, again performed by Vocal Adrenaline. Its not as good as the original, I'm kinda lukewarm on the arrangement, but I still like it.
Edge of Glory- I covered this in a previous post, its the Troubletones number (though Brit doesn't sing but Tina and Quinn do)
Its All Coming Back To Me Now- Celine Dion, performed by Rachel, of course. Holy crap, this is a friggin amazing version of this.
Paradise By the Dashboard Light- An ND ensemble version of the Meatloaf hit, with Finn and Rachel taking lead. Its a fun number.
Tongue Tied- by Grouplove, as performed by ND. It sounds fine.
We Are the Champions- As I said previously, this is a good ensemble version of the song.
So given the list of songs from the Nationals ep, I was trying to figure out what the hell ND's set list was. I mean, it was obvious given VA's would be "Pinball Wizard" and "Starships" since those were the only two songs by them in the song list. But I assumed "Edge of Glory" was the Troubletones number, and "Its All Coming Back To Me Now" was way too friggin good for that not to be in there. But I wasn't sure if the third ND number was "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" or "We Are the Champions". Looking it up, I guess its the former. But does that mean they sing "We Are the Champions" after they win? I mean, I assume they will be the champions, because they didn't win the previous two seasons, and they're owed a victory, since most of the cast is graduating. That and while "Pinball Wizards" and "Starships" are fine, the ND performances just kick the ass of the VA ones. But yeah, isn't kinda dick-ish to sing "We Are the Champions" after their victory? Well, I guess only if they do that at the actual competition. I suppose it could be in the choir room after they come back, which would be less cocky.
But if it is "Paradise By The Dashboard Light", "Edge of Glory", and "Its All Coming Back To Me Now", I'm curious as to the order. Edge is definitely the middle song. But Paradise doesn't seem strong enough to be their closing number, while it seems kinda weird for them to end on a total Rachel solo. I mean, I guess they did end with a Rachel solo at Regionals, but Its All Coming Back seems all Rachel, as opposed to her singing lead on a group number. And where does "Tongue Tied" come in during all this? I guess last year they implied at Nationals there was another round they hadn't made it to since they were eliminated early. Maybe this is their first, first number (and we don't hear the VA one) and the previous songs are for the true final number of the competition?
