Walking Dead- What a way to end the season! So, the ep starts off with a helicopter flying over Atlanta. Not sure if this was meant to be the same chopper in the comics, which for the life of me, I don't remember if they ever addressed what its deal was. Or was its importance only that it crashed, which gets Rick and the gang on the Governor's radar when they go to investigate. But that's neither here nor there. All it does here is fly through the air, attracting a swarm away from the city and they blunder into Herschel's farmland, where they eventually hear the gunshots from the Rick/Shane/Carl fiasco and head towards them.
It actually takes several minutes for Rick and Carl to realize they're being chased by a zombie horde. They end up trapped in the barn because other walkers end up between them and the farmhouse. The rest of the group don't realize that at first (and also Lori's freaking out because Carl's not there, and she has no idea he's with his dad), all they see is the zombies.
So, T-dog, Andrea, Glen, Maggie, Jimmy, and Daryl head out in vehicles and start picking off zombies, hoping to herd them away from the farm. Meanwhile, Rick lets the Walkers in to the barn after dousing it in fuel, and once and Carl are up in the rafters, he has Carl set it ablaze. This alerts the gang to their presence, and Jimmy drives up in the RV to try and rescue Rick and Carl.
And what baffles me is that Jimmy was alone in the RV! To me that's insane, because its so big and slow that it would be easy for a zombie to get on, so I would think if any vehicle needed two people in it, it would be Dale's RV, so they could basically keep zombies from getting on. In any case, once he stop at the barn, he's quickly over run. Mostly because he stares dumbly at the RV door and promptly gets eaten instead of doing something productive like perhaps shooting the zombies coming in.
They quickly realize the farm is lost- Maggie and Glen are forced to drive off on their own. (She panics later, because her home is gone, and maybe her family is all dead, but Glen calms her down by telling her he loves her) The lady folk try to flee the house to leave in the last vehicle, while yelling for Herschel to run rather than stand and shoot with his unlimited capacity (until its convenient for him to run out) shotgun. But, they're cut off from the truck, and Patricia is eaten. Lori and Beth make it to T-dog and Andrea's pickup, but Carol is cut off, and Andrea jumps out to rescue her. Unfortunately, there's too many zombies out there, and they're both separately cut off from each other and T-dog, so he drives off.
Herschel's still shotgunning zombies left and right, and Rick finally makes it to him, saving him from a walker. Rick finally convinces Herschel to flee in the last vehicle. Daryl manages to find Carol and get away with her, but Andrea ends up running off on her own. Andrea ends up being a friggin bad-ass through all this, shooting, stabbing, and bludgeoning her zombie attackers. Eventually, one of them brings her down, and is about to eat her, when Michonne shows up and chops its head off with her katana to save her.
I was wondering how the hell they would know where to hook back up, but I guess the place where they left the supplies for Sophia is a good place. I mean, they didn't plan to meet up there, everyone just decided to go their on their own and its through dumb luck that they hook back up. They travel to no place in particular, but are forced to stop when its clear that the old Suburban they're driving won't make it much further unless they give it a rest.
So, they decide to make camp for the night. They wonder about non-bitten people turning into zombies, and he reveals, "Oh yeah, that's what CDC guy told me!" Well, not in those words, but for some reason he choose to tell them in a way that would make him look like a total a-hole. I mean, he was all, "Oh, I just didn't want people panicking!" Its annoying, because we the audience had no idea he had this in the back of his mind, that he was keeping this big secret for the sake of the group. Which is BS, because to me, I figured he just chalked it up to the ramblings of an insane man. Because CDC guy was pretty unhinged.
I mean, Rick says he thought the guy was full of shit, but also that he intentionally kept it from them. Is he trying to undermine his own authority? He should've emphasized the whole thinking CDC guy was insane! If it were me, I would be all, "So that's what he was trying to say! Before we fled the CDC, he whispered to me the infection was everywhere! I didn't understand what he meant at the time, but what happened with the kid, and Shane, I guess that makes sense!"
Now, CDC guy said, "The infection is in us!" but the group doesn't friggin know that. And "The infection is everywhere!" is not a lie, its just a re-wording of CDC guy's statement that is also true. If he did that people wouldn't start doubting him.
And then he reveals to Lori how he killed Shane. But again, he does it in a manner that would cause the most amount of strife. Instead of just saying something short and too the point like, "He took me out to the woods to try and kill me, but I got him first", he starts babbling about how he knew exactly what was coming and giving Shane chances and just wanting it to be over! I think what Rick did was self defense, that's all she needs to know, she doesn't need to know there was a chance to just subdue him. Because things are too far gone, and inevitably one will have to kill the other.
And Lori's kinda a bitch anyways, acting all offended. Its like she's all, "How dare you kill your best friend even though I dropped hints you should prolly kill your best friend because he's going to try to kill you so he can have me and Carl all to himself!"
Then when he tells this to the group, again, he says it in a way to make him look as suspicious as possible. Instead of playing up the self defense angle, he starts talking about how he did it for the good of the group. They don't need to hear about that, moron! all they need to know is he planned to shoot you, and you killed him first. They don't need to know the exact details. I think people would've accepted that version of the story, if he kept it at that.
I dunno, I guess the whole point is he's becoming unhinged because of all the pressure, but it seems like he did things in a way to bring up unnecessary conflict. And what's up with the Rick support going down gender lines? The lady folk are all, we should do this or that not do what Rick says we should do, while its Daryl and Herschel who are all, "Rick is an honorable man, we should listen to him!"
In any case, the last shot is of the prison, so I guess they're finally up to that plot arc. Hmm, since Herschel doesn't have the twins in the TV show, will they still do that one part but with Beth?
