geebsDynasty Warriors blather: Finally tried out the "new and improved" ex weapons for Zhao Yun, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. Guan Yu's is nothing to write home about. It's still solid, it feels like it hits harder than the old Pike he used to have, but nothing that really stands out to me. Zhang Fei's Double Pike is more fitting to him. Since he shared the double voulge with Wei Yan, some of the moves in the weapon's moveset were a tad acrobatic, which I didn't feel was appropriate for Zhang Fei. It's definitely brutal and hard hitting- and unlike his weapon in the previous games (pre-DW7), the range feels decent.
Finally, there's Zhao Yun in his dragon spear. Holy crap, they finally turned Zhao Yun back into a bad-ass. That weapon is just ridiculous! Its running attack is one of the best in the game (he swings the spear around him back and forth as he charges forward, great for charging into a crowd). And his EX-attack is greatly improved. Its still a charging spear thrust that takes them into the air, but the angle of the attack is different, its more vertical. But yeah, its monstrous, because its already a guaranteed canned 20-25 hit combo, but it also ends with both of you in the air. And his air attack is several swings with the spear, so that's another extra 5 or so hits. And, after those hits, again, you're still in the air, so you can end the insane combo with his air-musou. Its not really set up to hit the actual officer you targeted though, because the angle of attack isn't right for where you sent the officer flying with the combo you just hit them with. But it is good to clear out swarms below you. So, Zhao Yun has to get the award for most improved character.
Also, finally got to use Guo Jia. Okay, I thought is normal musou was good, but holy cow, his air musou has to be unbalanced. Sticking with the pool theme, he shoots some balls to the ground which just bounce this way and that like crazy. And not only does it seem to cover a way wider area than a lot of the other air musous, those balls bounce around for a long time, seemingly longer than other musou attacks. It'll clear out large areas really quick and whittle down enemy officers like crazy.
