Vampire Diaries- Aw, a sweet and heartbreaking ep tonight w/ a lot of surprises! Its interesting they managed to hide all the guests from the opening credits. Isn't there some weird SAG rule about that? But yeah, apparently, when Bonnie did that spell last week to banish Vicki, the original witch used that as an opportunity to wedge a hole open between the real and spirit worlds. Hence Anna and Jeremy being able to touch, and Mason being able to beat up Damon.
So, while Bonnie and Care talk about what's been happening with Damon and the Germ, Bonnie's bag "accidentally drops", spilling open her grimoire to a specific spell that she apparently thinks will help with the sitch. And what it does is make all the ghosts with unfinished business around Mystic Falls corporeal and visible to everyone. Heh, Bonnie manages to do it right at a time when Anna and Jeremy start making out, so when she becomes visible, Elena catches an eyeful and pissed at her brother cheating on one of her best friends.
Now, if I may digress and discuss this sitch for a moment. One, so, before Bonnie did what she did, if someone did walk in on him, would they think he's some weirdo pretending to make out with an imaginary lover? Now, I actually like Jeremy and Anna, but I can see things from both sides of the triangle. As I've said before, I agreed with Bonnie's statement that Jeremy never got real closure with Anna (or Vicki!) because they never broke up, they died on him. So, he still has unresolved feelings for them, especially Anna. I mean, how can you not feel bad for such a sad faced cutie? That being said, he still jerked Bonnie around, and she is right to dump his cheating ass.
So besides Mason (who, after getting a little satisfaction from beating up Damon, is actually around to help Damon find some super secret Original killing weapon as some sort of redemption/stop Tyler from going down a bad path) and Anna (who just doesn't want to be alone), we get Grams (ho shows up to help Bonnie fix this mess) and Lexi (who heard Elena's desire for help to help fix Stefan.)
So, Grams tells Bonnie needs to find and destroy the necklace and send all the ghosts away. Elena is fine with this plan after seeing the Germ and Anna making out. But then she has a change of heart when Lexi shows up to try and fix Stefan, so she wants Bonnie to hold off. Though she has a change of heart yet again when Lexi's methods seem a little too torturous for Elena's tastes.
Too bad Bonnie and Caroline can't find the necklace. Because Anna stole it! But not because she was secretly evil. She just wanted to stay a little longer because she's so alone. She was hoping with all the ghosts showing up, she'd finally find her mom, whom she hasn't seen since their respective deaths. However, she eventually decides to give up the necklace and help the gang out- because in addition to the aforementioned characters, a bunch of tomb vampires also show up, wanting revenge on the founding families for what they did a century and a half ago. They kill one council member, and intend to slaughter their way through the rest since they're unstoppable in ghost form. So, the gang has no choice but to banish all the ghosts as soon as possible, regardless of Elena's waffling feelings on how to fix Stefan, or the Germ and Anna's little thing, or Mason and Damon's business.
Speaking of, what exactly are those two doing? During all this Damon and Mason have a little adventure on their own in some hidden underground caves to find the supposed weapon, Damon is incredibly distrustful of Mason, and thinks he has some ulterior motive the whole time. He thinks his fears have come true when he gets speared by a trap and Mason is nowhere to be found, but he eventually shows up with a shovel to free Damon, and informs him that while hurting him was fun, he's let go of the hate, and he just wants to make sure Tyler doesn't go down a dark path.
Meanwhile, after receiving the necklace from Anna and heading back to the witch house to destroy it, Caroline and Bonnie come across Mayor Mulva in a car wreck and about to be the tomb vamps' next victim. So Care Bear stays to hold them off until Bonnie can banish them by doing the ritual. As Caroline kicks ass to protect her bf's mother, said mother wakes up in the middle of it to see Caroline's heroism, so maybe she'll be warming to Caroline.
Anyhoo, Bonnie and her Grams destroy the necklace, and with that, the latter leaves. Lexi can sense she's leaving soon too, so she tells Elena the good Stefan is in there and not to lose hope. Anna's sad knowing she's about to go back to all that loneliness, but then she finally finds her mom and they tearfully reunite. And ha, in the underground, Damon is prevented from moving further on by some sort of mystic shield like the whole house invite thing, so he sends Mason, who does see something but is unable to tell Damon because he gets banished. But lucky for Caroline, the tomb vamp eventually all disappear before they can overwhelm her.
Heh, Damon and Alaric patch their little lover's quarrel up, and its all amusing. But since Alaric and Damon are back together again, they go back underground, where Alaric sees what Mason saw, which is some paintings that I assume will prove useful. And several minutes after Bonnie destroys the necklace, it reconstitutes itself. So while the ghost thing may have ended, the necklace is still something they have to worry about.
