Saw the Avengers yesterday with the usual suspects. Great movie, totally awesome. After, went to the ex-roomies for food and games. Lots of skirt steak and sausage and chicken and wot-not, tasty as usual. We were intending to try several new games, but we played the Game of Thrones strategy game, which took damn near 10 hours, I think. It was fun though. As I said, my strategic thinking sucks. I'm just no good at coming up with a big plan for winning. I'm too single minded and don't often think beyond the next battle. But I think I do okay on a tactical level.

I ended up playing as the Starks. I didn't win, but hey, I kept a hold of the North. Like I said though, my lack of strategic sense hurt me, because I had no idea how to muster a good offense to get to the Southern territories and capture them. I probably should have struck down the east coast, but I was too busy fending off attacks from [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe's Greyjoys. Well, the lack of re-evaluating supplies hurt a lot, because I was stuck at 3-2 for the longest time. And since I had built up my navy to blockade the Greyjoys and [livejournal.com profile] clevemire's Baratheons, from coming up North that took up my 3 and 2, so I couldn't really muster up a powerful land army to take stuff.

The only route to the south was blocked by the Greyjoys, and PJ had parked a large army of knights there. With me unable to mass a land force bigger than 1 unit, it was basically unpossible to make any headway by land even with my navy parked off the east coast supporting my land forces. I had a brief respite from the Greyjoy's attacks to possibly take the Eyrie via the sea, while the rest of them were fighting it out amongst each other, but that relied on naval support, and the GMA raided my navy to take that support token away and I no longer had enough offensive power to go down there to try and take it.

What I should've done was spread my navy out in the east when it became apparent that the Baratheons had no interest in attacking on the east coast, and that my eastern navy just wasn't strong enough to support any land excursions to the south. That way I could've just fully taken the North and built up power and muster single forces and hope for a supply re-evaluation that I could band some of those together to make a decent army.

As it was, I think my eastern navy was too big for too long. The Greyjoys eventually obliterated my western navy, but between that and finally getting a resupply, that finally allowed me to mass decent enough land forces to fortify the northeast. They took Winterfell, and thought the North was easy pickings. There was a single knight in a seemingly pointless territory that they ignored, and with three knights and a siege engine, they prolly felt that was a big enough force to take the eastern territories one at a time, since they outnumbered the defenders of any one territory.

But, since I knew I would go before the Greyjoys, I put all the eastern forces on support, and attacked from the west with the one knight. His attack power wasn't all that high, but he had all that support from the east. Their invading force could was more than a match for any of those one eastern territories, but since I was on offense, I could bring all of them, plus my navy simultaneously against them via support. There wasn't a card PJ could play to prevent me from obliterating his forces, particularly since I had Ned back in my hand. His siege weapon was destroyed automagically, Ned auto-killed 2 of the attackers, not that it mattered since he couldn't retreat anywhere that wouldn't bring him above his army limits, so he woulda had to destroy them anyways.

So, at the very least, I did kick everyone out of the North and managed to keep it before the GMA won on the last round. So thematically, I kept the Southerners off Stark lands, which is all the Northerners really wanted, wasn't it?

Also tried the Locke and Key card game. Its a pretty fun game.

TV Commentary:

Young Justice- Interesting, were we supposed to know the son of that one chick M'gan based her human form on whom she gave a blood transfusion to was going to become Beast Boy? And what the, why the hell did Superboy dump MM? Because he'd always look young and handsome even though he was aging internally? Like the Alanna chick said, it can't be because she would get old while he stayed eternally young, making it all awkward, because MM is a shapeshifter, so she could look as young and hot as she wanted too! It does not make cents!

Legend of Korra- Heh, when Pema was giving love advice to Korra and she told the story of how Tenzin was in love with another woman and how it killed her to see her soul mate with the wrong person, all I thought was, you mean like how his mother was with the wrong guy?!

Also, I'm still kinda confused about pro-bending rules. So, you win a round if you "conquer" more territory within the time limits. Knocking other team members off does help, since that's less defenders. But normally you're just pushing all the team members back an area so that you're territory is at least past the half way mark. But apparently, if you knock all the opposing team members out of the ring in one single round, that's an automatic victory?
