Went to dinner at the IHOP then picked up some cables and CDs (Jason Mraz and Gary Jules). Ended up re-wiring the entertainment center! Now only the Gamecube's video input goes through the receiver, everything else goes straight to the TV. The satellite is on one of the s-video ports, and we got component cables for the DVD player. There's a noticable improvement in the DVD picture quality! I got component cables for the PS2 which I plugged into the other set of component ins (could this TV have any more inputs, its insane) and I also got an optical cable for the audio out which goes into the receiver. So the PS2 games should look and sound awesome now! And another side benefit to everything being re-wired like that is the return of PiP! I tested it out yesterday, splitting the screen and playing FFX-2 while watching an ep of Buffy! Of course, the PiP is weird in that only the video and s-video inputs can be on the secondary screen, which complicates things slightly. Hmm, I believe the PS2 still has a spare audio input going into the TV, and the DVD has a s-video input going into the TV in addition to the component cables. So I think one can watch a DVD and play a game at the same time. but the ps2 audio and DVD video would be crappier. Of course, only I would try and play a game and watch a DVD at the same time. Though I think with the way things are set up, a CD can be listened to while you play a game (or watch TV) which is somewhat more reasonable if you're playing a repetitive or long game and want to listen to some different music.
And now I'll rant about cables. I bought what is prolly the "cheap-o" cables for the ps2. Its not too much of a problem since they're easy to change out. But anyways, "cheap-o" is $9.99. I think the official component cables are around $20. But seriously, what is with Monster? Is there stuff that much higher quality? Because their component cables? They're $50!! That's more than double the standrd cost and 5 times cheaper than the "value" cables. And its just not that, looking through the cables section, their stuff seems significantly pricey! I don't know if it was them who had the $120 DPI cables. And are there people who will actually pay $400 for a surge protector/power strip? I guess if you have thousands of dollars worth of av equipment, you might want it, cause $400 is cheaper than the couple of thousand to replace a fried this or that. It just doesn't seem right though.
So, anyways, after wiring came twist tying all the loose cables. And there are a lot of cables. It was almost intimidating. I mean, after bugs, the second thing that will send me into a near panic attack is lots of loose and tangled wiring. It must be a sign of my slightly obsessive/compulsive nature. Thankfully here at work they have to keep all the wires organized neatly. But at home, I would't be able tp stand it unless there's some sense of order. Seriously, that stuff will keep me up at night and I won't be able to go to sleep unless I fix it. Okay, its not that bad. It'll keep me up sometimes, but I can usually wait until the morning.
And hey, for some reason Tru Calling was shifted back half an hour, so I got to watch that and Friends! I'm such a TV addict, I know.
