TV commentary:
Riverdale- For an ep whose title was referencing Fast Times, it sure had a lot of Ferris Bueller references. But Kerr Smith's apparently the new principal, and Sam Witwer, fresh from last season of Supergirl is here playing a teacher from some fancy prep school wanting to recruit Jug.
Heh, and they totally go straight from FP saying "I think its going to be great year for you!" to a flashforward to Spring Break where everyone is out in the woods looking for Jughead.
Anyways, Kevin is trying to make amends for you know, being in a cult and doing some effed up things to Betty and her friends. Which on the one hand, the reason he fell prey to said cult was because of his feelings of isolation, and they gave him the cold shoulder all summer. (Again, for good reason though) But then while Betty puts him on probation, when she and real Charles set a trap to accidentally "leak" info about the investigation, he totally runs to Fangs to tell him.
Which, even that's sad because to any other person it would be clear Fangs has gotten totally brainwashed and he's just using Kevin now all, "Oh, tell us who this informant is and we can be together again!" But yeah, way to betray someone you just said you were trying to make amends to!
Still, Betty knows Kevin's hurting and lonely and gives him a second chance, this time revealing her mom is an undercover informant right now. Which to his credit, he does not tell Fangs and get her killed. However, the intel he does get after going through with their plan to give Fangs the name of a fake informant says that Edgar and the cult are arming up for a showdown.
Heh, isn't this supposed to be a high school show, and not like FBI or Criminal Minds? I know they've had organized crime and serial killers and wot not, now they might have to deal with a cult possibly pulling a Waco?
Nancy Drew- Heh, what the hell, I totally did not realize Bess was Odessa from Into the Badlands. (Or if I did know, I had forgotten). But I guess its the hair. And also, since this takes place in a "normal" world and not a post-apocalypse, the makeup. Not that Odessa didn't look like she was wearing makeup at times. But even living out of her van, Bess isn't dealing with the same amount of shit Odessa did. She's not fending off attacks by rival baronies or living in refugee encampments or whatever.
But hey, Katie Findlay's playing a lady coroner who could possibly be a love interest for her. But of course, tumblr is already complaining all, Bess' speech to Ace made it seem like she could be well, ace. So they're like, let her be ace since they didn't let Jughead be ace on Riverdale and clamoring for more ace representation.
Also, I'm amused the guy playing Ace is still playing the exact same character he did on The Fosters and Finding Carter. Still confused as to what his deal is. It doesn't seem like he could be an undercover cop, as the gang talks about doing totally illegal things in front of him, and he even helps. But at the same time, the secret questions from the Sheriff make it seem like he's not just an informant being pumped for information, that his role is more active.
So, are these ghosts for real, or Nancy's imagination running wild?
Stumptown- A little schmaltzy. I mean, Artie is this total jerk not caring about anyone or anything, but then Dex manages to shame/convince him to be a good guy again was a little cliche/corny, but whatever. If it gets a happy ending in the end, I guess that's fine.
But yeah, turns out he was thrown off the force for stealing money, but it was to pay for medical treatments for his illegitimate daughter. And when his daughter died anyways, he just shut himself off from caring. But Dex's chastising combined with the sight of the lady having to give the kid to her jerk ex-husband snapped him out of it.
I figured they had to bring Sue Lynn into it somehow though. Because taking the guy down wasn't the only issue since he was doing things for the reservation, they would have to come up with some compelling reason for Sue Lynn to not back him anymore. And sure enough, he was purposely running long on building some school for the reservation so he could use the site for smuggling. So by doing that, it got her off Dex's back also.
