Haven't written here in a while since most of my non-work time has been spent watching my shows, slogging through the towers in MK11 and photographing Transformers and playing Gloomhaven and T.I.M.E stories. But I have some time now.
TV commentary:
The 100- I was right! Xavier is indeed Gabriel, i.e. Josephine's ex-bf. Turns out he's over the mind-drive immortality thing and broke away. Too bad he accidentally ended up creating his own cult who upon his death, uploaded him into a new body, much to his chargin. Where his followers even listening to him?
It was cute that Murphy sort of proposed to Emori with the mind drives- I knew he was getting one for both of them. Too bad that prolly means one of them is gonna die.
iZombie- Man, there's so much going on, I'm confused. So on one side, you get those damned Dead Enders. Then you have Liz's dad, who, why the hell was he nicknamed Beanpole Bob back in the day? They showed the flashbacks where he created the tainted Utopium, and there was nothing beanpole about him. But yeah, still don't know if he knew Liz was his daughter from the beginning, or if that just ended up being a bit of kismet.
And then you have Mr Boss and his daughter, basically screwing over Blaine, Peyton, and Fillmore Graves with her expose. Which could benefit either side, but I'm still unsure if they're a third faction or one of the two.
But yeah, wow, who would've thought they would bring back her mom and brother? I know its the last season, but honestly, I figured they just like retconned that part of the show away after season 1.
Stranger Things- I enjoyed this season. Like whether you ship Elmax or just like their friendship, it is a refreshing change from last season's El being bitchy to Max for no reason.
Also, I loved the Steve/Robin stuff. Setting it up as if she was his love interest, but then the surprise twist that she's gay. That was such a perfect scene too. Like Steve confesses his love for her, all, how could he have been so blind to what was in front of him this whole time. And all the while, you see things from her perspective, which is not something you always get in the movies. She's touched, but then you see her freak out because she doesn't reciprocate those feelings, she can't, and she's kinda stuck because she's freaked out that she'll lose him as a friend when she rejects him and tells him why.
But Steve is understanding and cool about it. And no self deprecating jokes lamenting his luck, he's just reassuring. Which is sad how low the bar is that people were all, "guys, take notes!" as if that's not the proper way to react in that situation?
Heh, I was really sad about the Alexei guy, he seemed so happy winning the "rigged" game and getting the giant Woody Woodpecker. Dude just wanted to watch Looney Tunes and drink Cherry slurpiees. And he gets shot down like a dog by the Russian Terminator.
I'm also amused how split the fandom is on Billy. You got the Billy lovers who are all upset about his sacrifice and then the Billy haters who are all, "Whatever, fuck that guy!" To be fair, they could've done a little more to make us feel sympathetic towards him other than a stroll into his memories by El. Its like, it sucks he hasn't felt loved since his mother abandoned him and he has abusive dad. But he's kinda a scumbag racist who terrorized his little sister.
Like I get he's her brother, but Max being all, "he's kinda a jerk, but he's still my brother!" is a far cry from her threatening him with a freaking spiked baseball bat to leave her and her friends alone. That seemed like more a "stay out of my life until one or both of us is out of the house" sorta thing.
And the Hopper stuff, how dare they! Like he was all set to finally go on that date with Joyce. And then she's forced to turn the key even though he's in the blast radius. But hey, we don't see him get disintegrated like the other guys, and at the end the Russians have an American prisoner. Maybe somehow they got him!
