TV commentary:
Glee- Given the number of times I've this week's ep, I suppose I would count it as one of my favorites. Mostly for the numbers, I thought "Wedding Bell Blues" was cute (probably the best Emma performance to date), and it seemed like the cast had a lot of fun doing "We Found Love" in the pool. Same with "Summer Nights". It was cool how closely they tried to mimic the scene from the movie, like having Santana be all Rizo and kicking Rachel and Mercedes off the bench. I also thought it was funny that Kurt was with the girls, while Blaine was with the boys. So I guess Blaine is the dude in their relationship?
But there is one part of that number that has seriously baffled me- in the beginning, when the guys ask Sam to recount his summer fling with Mercedes, Puck grabs Sam's hand and kisses it! Its just such an odd thing to do- I rewatched the scene from Grease, and no one did that to Danny, so its not like they were just copying something that happened in the film. So seriously, why in the world did Puck do that?!
Regarding the big development at the end: Its no secret I'm not the biggest fan of Finchel. I would've rather seen her with Puck, and barring that, her and Quinn becoming lesbian lovers. I just don't think Finn suits her. Sure, he's nice enough to her, and he's made mistakes with her. But even from a story-telling standpoint, it just takes her away from character if she ends up with him. The whole point of her character is to be this sad loser with talent, who will eventually get out of her small town and become a big star. And marrying some townie would interfere with that.
Either she doesn't leave Lima, which would be terrible if that's what ends up happening to the character. Its like, that's the way her story ends?! Or, Finn goes with her to NY and makes something of himself. Which isn't really believable. I mean, Puck still makes a better "small town loser" in the latter case, because at least I can actually believe him finding a place for himself in NYC. Finn, not so much.
And it would be one thing if it was just that they were still together as a couple after they graduate. But getting friggin' married?! (I'm hoping Rach says no she has her career to think about, but I'm guessing not) What's with these teen dramas' fascination with marrying in high school!? They shouldn't be glorifying such a stupid mistake!
