TV commentary:

HIMYM- Aww, poor Barney. He finally meets his pops, and its John Lithgow! He has some drinks with the guy, and then lies to the gang about he's this awesome band manager lady-killer, still partying and being awesome. But Barney's dad approaches them later saying Barney won't return his calls. Apparently he's just a boring driving instructor (and married to Nancy Travis, whom I didn't recognize without her curly hair, much like I totally did not recognize Andrea on the Event). The gang finally convinces him to have dinner with his dad- who has a new family. After some silliness at the dinner table, Barney ends up hurt when he finds out his half-brother JJ's name stands for Jerome Jr.

And we learn what's really hurting Barney- not that his father isn't as cool as he'd hoped. But the fact that he is just this boring old suburban dad. And if he was just a normal dad, why couldn't he be in Barney's life? I assume this isn't the last we've seen of Lithgow. Also, they mention that Barney has a half-sister in college that we don't see. Now, given Barney's proclivities, I have to think that will come into play later- like he'll accidentally run into her and not recognize her, and try to hit on her or something.

Chuck- An amusing ep, but some interesting developments here. Chuck is tasked with finding a new intersect, but "hilarity ensues". In the end, Chuck saves Robin Givens just as she's about to make a noble sacrifice. They make amends, and she's shipped back to Washington, but before she leaves she tells Chuck that Ellie is smarter than he thinks, and he might want to bring her in on all this.

He wonders if it would be a good idea, after having tasked Awesome with changing out the hard drive on their dad's laptop and making her think it was some sort of error that fragged the disks or something. It seems like Chuck was feeling Awesome out and wondering if maybe they should bring Ellie into this, but Awesome seems to think they're doing the right thing. Only he didn't swap out the drives- working on her dad's laptop has been helping Ellie to feel close to her dad, and he couldn't take that away from her. So now its their turn to lie and make Chuck think they're not doing anything more on this.

And apparently, one night, after Ellie falls asleep at the computer, it does a scan of her face, and it brings up something called the "Agent X Files". Interesting. Also interesting, it sounds like Vivian Volkoff is Chuck's new nemesis, having hired the one guy at the beginning to blow up Castle, as she wants to take down the guy who took down her dad. Now, did she really do this? They say the guy was wired money supposedly from Vivian to do this, but this could all be a trick by someone else to pit them against each other. Or she could really just be Chuck's enemy. I guess we'll see.
