Who runs Thunderdome?

VH-1's I Hate My 30s is okay. There are a few jokes I find pretty funny, like the poker game where they dressed up as Mad Max Characters, and the one guy was strapped to some big retard's back, and the "The More You Know"-ish things in the end, but otherwise its nothing to write home about.

Been watching Grand Slam on GSN. That's the super game show where they invite a Who's Who of game show contest winners like Ken Jennings and that Brad Rutter guy, the guy who beat Ken Jennings to win the Jeopardy Ultimate Tournament of Champions in 2005. (They're seed two and one, respectively.) Actually, the only other guy I recognize is the asian guy from this year's world series of pop culture. There are four rounds. Each round, both contestants are given one minute. They're asked a question, and the timer ticks down until they answer it. If they get it wrong or pass it, they're asked another question and the clock continues to tick down until they get a question right. Then it switches to the other person, and their clock ticks down. The loser is whoever's clock ticks down first, and the winner's leftover time is added to their total time in the fourth round. Each contestant is also given three "switches", where they pass the question to their opponent.

Anyways, the first round is general trivia. The second one is considered the hardest, logic and numbers. The third is words. Spelling, anagrams, find the hidden word in the phrase, etc. And the fourth is a mix. Heh, I suck at geography and non-entertainment industry famous people, so those anagrams are harder for me, but I can get the actor/musician/movie ones pretty fast. Its a cool contest though. Though there is a "total BS" aspect to it. The timer stops when the question asker (It sounds like the same guy from the World Series of Pop Culture Trivia) says correct. The problem is some times he waits to finish the question, some times he doesn't, some times it takes him a while (well, an extra second or two) to acknowledge the correct answer. In a game where every second counts, its a bit unfair. Particularly when one person is close to zero. There are times when they answer the question correctly, and have like less than a second left, and the question asker determines the round is over. Which is bullshit, because even though they won't have time to answer the question the next time around, that gives their opponent an extra few seconds or more since they don't have to answer a question and lose time off their own clock. The timer should stop when you say a correct answer, not when the asker says you do, because the time lost waiting for that acknowledgment can be significant, and its not the same across the board!

Saw Bourne Ultimatum yesterday. It was pretty cool. The plot was pretty simplistic- Bourne continues to try and figure out his past, travels the world, kicking ass the whole way. Unfortunately, we didn't realize the movie was gonna be so popular (I didn't think people were that excited by the franchise!) so we came a little late and ended up sitting in the front rows, which sucks for a movie like this, with its shaky cam and closeups. But I did like the action. I've always liked that quick and brutal fighting style they Bourne uses.

Also finally saw Shaun of the Dead. Its pretty funny. Its not all zombie movie references though, there are a few inside jokes to "Spaced", the UK "Office", and other Britcoms. Heh, I think there's an interview or commentary somewhere where they joke the movie takes place a few years after Spaced, where Tim and Daisy have moved out of their apartment and changed their names to Shaun and Yvonne respectively. But ha, the biggest britcom joke is when Yvonne and her group bump into Shaun and his group. I think Marsha is among the dopplegangers, and since Dianne is Dawn from the UK office, Tim was in Yvonne's group (Tim and Dawn are the British versions of Jim and Pam, obviously). There were a couple of funny extras on the DVD- I liked the little comic shorts explaining "plot holes" in the movie- how Shaun escaped the zombies outside the Winchester, what happened to Dianne after she charged out, how Ed ended up getting from the Winchester's basement to the garden shed.
