TV commentary:
Runaways- Argh, that cliffhanger! Pretty great season though. So the kids manage to elude their parents for a while, getting into misadventures. Like Molly meets a guy Topher with similar powers to hers, who she thinks might be family, but it turns out he's was a security guard at the lab the night her parents got blown up, and the aftermath slowed his aging and gave him powers. But only if he came he rubbed some powdered rubble from the explosion onto his wrist. (I mean, it didn't have to be that way, that was the way he chose to "take" it) Anyways, it turned him into a junkie.
While he did get into a fight with the Runaways, he did end up getting mortally wounded saving Gert from a dumpster that he threw at them that Chase bounced back and accidentally sent hurtling towards her. Much different from the story arc of comics Topher.
Meanwhile, Alex was hanging out with Darius, who took him under his wing, but eventually chose to betray him to his parents. Which Geoffrey was willing to pay him off, but Catherine ruthlessly kills Darius and frames him for Destiny's murder so the cops would get off the cops off the kids' backs in the hopes that maybe they'd come home.
Alex did fall for Darius' sister in law Livvie. But Alex was too obsessed with bringing his parents to justice, which endangered her and her family as well as the Runaways, so that relationship failed spectacularly.
But yeah, midway through the season, the parent and the kids both try to take down Jonah. The parents because they just don't trust him. So Stacey and Dale try to find out what Graciela knows, since she starts going on the news saying the kids were framed and has evidence. Graciela is no fool, and shoots at them, so Tina comes in and ends up killing her. Which the Pride later is all, "Oh, Tina had no choice, Graciela was shooting at them." But she could've prolly done something other than coming in and immediately using the staff to magically choke her to death.
But the Pride sees the tape and finds out the bottom of the pit is a ship, which they believe will destroy California when it gets out. They confront Jonah who assures them that the Hernandezes were basing their calculations off "Earth technology", and his ship will shrink to fit through the hole to get out. He just wants to leave, and they can continue Pride with out him. Needless to say, they are skeptical and make their own plans just in case Jonah betrays them.
Oh, and heh, Tina lets Nico have the Staff of One in a failed attempt to get her to return- take the staff and leave with her friends, but if she does she's dead to the family. Heh, Nico is all, "Thanks, smell ya later!" Whoops!
Also, Karolina was secretly seeing her dad.to learn about herself. She finds out about the ship and how she has relatives down there. Anyways, things become volatile when the ship is finally ready to leave. Alex manages to capture his dad, and they work with him to try and just get the ship and Karolina's "family" out of there and just leave the planet. Also, Karolina finds out Jonah killed Amy, and she confesses it to Nico.
Nico seems chill at first, but when the ship comes out, the parents and kids end up blundering into each other's plans. When it becomes clear that Jonah is 1) a lying liar who is willing to destroy California to leave and 2) intends to take Karolina with him, there's a huge fight where Stacey and Dale manage to poison the other aliens, seemingly killing them. So he's pretty pissed and goes all out on everyone. And then Nico unleashes her rage and kills him with the Staff of One.
It causes a little rift between Karolina and Nico at first, but they get over it. Also, in the aftermath, Frank makes a play for the church since Leslie wants to dismantle it. She gets thrown into "reconditioning", but luckily she finds her mom whom she thought abandoned her. She had also been sent to reconditioning a long time ago when Jonah set his eyes on young Karolina. Which yeah, that's totally fucked up that he groomed her.
Karolina goes to rescue Leslie (who it turns out is preggers with another alien baby) and ends up revealing her powers to the church in order to escape without bloodshed. So Frank gets overthrown by Leslie's mom, who had wanted Leslie and Karolina to retake the church since its their heritage before Jonah and now Frank stole it away. She ends up taking back the church and lets Leslie and Karolina get away, but they suspect the church will eventually try to find Karolina because now they think she's their messiah.
Oh, and Xavin was also on the ship, and they show up to propose to Karolina. Turns out they're not skrull, but some other shapeshifting alien who stowed away on the ship and was piloting it, hence Jonah betrothing Karolina to them. But now that the ship is destroyed, Jonah has no use for them.
Because yeah, Jonah's alive. After his host was killed by Nico, whatever DNA was put into Victor in order to heal him started to take him over. Also, the aliens survived, secretly taking over Tina and Stacey. Karolina's brother though, is believed to have taken over one of the kids, but whichever one it is, the show hasn't revealed it. I think it has to be Alex? But I'm getting ahead of myself.
So yeah, Victor entices Chase back home by saying he's dying. Which isn't a lie, he has lost time from being taken over by Jonah, but he thinks its the tumor again. But I think eventually Jonah is the one in control, because he shows Chase the flaking skin, which he has to know that's not from a tumor. And indeed, when Chase tells his mom about his father's sickness, when he mentions the skin, Janet knows somehow Victor took over.
Which, it was nice that they had Janet be all science-y this season. Last season made her seem like some ordinary housewife, and the Pride similarly treated her as such, but people forget she met Victor in grad school, she proves as capable as her husband and son.
They confront him, but unfortunately Victor is prepared and he captures them.
But yeah, before that, Chase tries to get he kids back into the fold, the Pride telling him they have weapons to fight them, and once they get them, they'll use the mindwipe drug on them. So he tries to get them to join Pride, as while the Pride did make a threat, they also said they only wanted this for their kids and will step aside from Pride when its their time to take over. But of course, given that 3 of them were secretly alien-possessed, that may have all been a lie.
Anyways, the parents followed Chase to the secret meet where he made the offer, and go after the kids. They split up. Alex manages to finally bring his parents to justice by leading them into a trap where they get arrested with a gun from a cold case. Molly and Gert flee from Dale and Stacey, and Molly gets away by pretending Dale is some pedophile trying to kidnap her.
Stacey however, gets taken over by the alien when it gets tired of Gert getting away. She captures her, but we found out Dale runs off with Gert and Old Lace since Stacey "has gotten more ruthless" lately. Though we also hear alien-Stacey tell Jonah she let them leave.
Tina fights her parents, and gets away in a rage- the Staff of One may be corrupting her. Tina doesn't pursue as Robert got some glass to the throat so she had to save him.
And finally, Jonah manages to capture Karolina, despite Xavin's best efforts. So needless to say, Nico is devastated.
So in the end, they think Gert is gonna be mind wiped, know Jonah has his daughter, have no idea Chase and Janet are captured. Although its weird that Jonah is telling whoever possessed Tina and Stacey that they need to feed, and they're thinking of feeding on Chase, Janet, or Karolina. But why would they feed on Karolina, since she's one of them.
Anyways, like I said, her brother, who apparently has always been a bit of a rebel has possessed someone, most likely one of the kids, and Jonah and his family don't know who. It can't be Karolina or Chase obviously, since Karolina is already one of them, and I doubt they'd know if he was in Chase.
Also, I figure Stacey must have figured out he's not in Gert, else she wouldn't have let Dale leave with her. Given the crazy fight and stuff with the Staff of One, I don't think it can be her, since she has a lot of other stuff going on. I guess it could be Molly, but Alex made the most logical choice given he only confronted his parents (who had no alien possession going on) and avoided the main alien mess.
