TV commentary:
Timeless- Series finale! I thought it was fine, but ugh, the tumblr tag is full of Garcy fans who were pissed. Like, did you honestly think they were endgame? Of course she was going to always end up with Wyatt. And them ending up together would be weird, because he has a wife and kid.
Like unlike Wyatt and Jessica, before she got turned into a Rittenhouse mole, they were still having problems. She got killed because they had a huge argument. Wyatt had regrets, and I think his whole thing was more about his wife being tragically murdered before he had a chance to fix things, but yeah, in the timeline where she wasn't killed, they had a shit marriage. Flynn on the other hand, he really loved his family. He did unspeakable things to try and get them back. So it would be weird in the end if he settled all, "Well, I love Lucy now!"
Plus that love triangle they built, it was always going to end with one of the dudes sacrificing himself to save Lucy's relationship with the other. And if Wyatt died taking out Jessica so Rufus could live and Garcy became endgame, I think more people would be up in arms. It would be odd because basically in saving Rufus, they posit its okay to change things to bring someone back. And why would Flynn, upon learning what Wyatt did be all, "A noble sacrifice, I'll be with Lucy now!" instead of being emboldened into saving his family?
I dunno, I guess some complainers were complaining that Lucy was "reduced to a love interest", but that was always part of the show. And I think they're just pissed about that because she didn't end up with the one they want, and if she did, they wouldn't be making that complaint.
Also, they had two hours to finish things up! So of course things happened fast, like Jessica being taken out so fast, Flynn dying in the first hour. Like if it went so fast it seemed OOC, that's because the writers had an end point in mind, and unfortunately that's the only way they could get to it.
It is weird that Lucy never got Amy back. Like she just accepted it all and just ended up naming her daughter after her. Were they twin girls? Or was one of them a long haired boy? I can't remember if Agent Christopher said "the girls" or "the kids". I guess I'm confused because they named the other kid after Flynn, but its like, who names a girl Flynn?!
I do like the idea of them keeping the lifeboat, just in case, and them being proven right (not that they know it) with that one girl working on time travel theories. Apparently the original ending to the series would be the scene in Brazil with them giving the diary to Flynn. But they added the scene with the girl.
Getting back to Amy, I read there was a debate in the writer's room whether to let Lucy to bring her back, but they finally decided to have Lucy not try, to make that her, "Oh, we can't keep meddling in time" moment. Which is kinda weird, since unlike undoing something that happened in the original timeline, they're keeping something that was a result of the meddling. But I guess if they do change that, what about all the other things they messed up, where would they stop, and would trying to stop those changes bring back the threat of Rittenhouse?
Also, its weird that they're so cold about Jessica. Like, yes, she's a traitor now. But in the original timeline, I'm pretty sure she was innocent. Rittenhouse just saved her, but also instilled in her a loyalty to their cause. I guess they could view it as "Wyatt's Jessica" was always dead and never coming back, and this was just some new, evil person.
Oh, heh, I know they were worried about that one lady's baby, but it was weird that Lucy is all, "Those two guys are very important to history!" and then immediately all, "Hey you, come with us into a very dangerous situation which may result in you getting killed and changing history!"
Also, I know they want to give her a chance, but unlike Rufus, who's death was a result of time meddling, she always died here. Like who knows what consequences them saving her has? Maybe her husband married someone else, and they had a kid important to history! I mean, just because its not saving a loved one doesn't make it any less "for personal gain", because they're trying to assuage their conscience.
