black-out

Jeez, I'm slow, I didn't even put two and two together. I had seen [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe post on his gtpj about a power outage in NY but didn't even think of the implications it would have for my family. I was like watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back when mom calls me from her cell. Only its real static-y. And she kept on asking me, "Do you have life?" And I kept answering, but she couldn't hear me and asked me it over and over again. It was actually starting to freak me out until she finally said there was a power outage and she was asking if I had light! I called her back later when she was almost home and asked me if I heard what had happenned. It didn't even occur to me that without power, they have no way of checking the news, and thus had no idea what was going on. I assured her it wasn't a terrorist attack since I'm sure that was prolly going through many NYers minds as they made the exodus from Manhattan back to their homes. I mean, they had no way of seeing the news where they said it wasn't an attack, though I'm sure those with cars and battery powered radios would've heard and spread the news via word of mouth.

Anyways, it looks like every one is okay now. Owel, it looks like the roomie didn't go to Peach county. There was a misinterpretation and he was having dinner with his parents, but not back home. He came back in the middle of The Faculty. Since his sister called during, he missed the end, so I told him who the queen was. He was a little skeptical about Mary Beth being the queen, and was all, why didn't she kill or convert them when she had so many chances to, especially since they're a hive mind? I think its two reasons: 1) I think she felt a kind of kinship towards all of them because of their outcast status. They were virtual aliens. And because of this, I think she wanted to get them to accept conversion willingly, to see what she was offering was a good thing rather than just enslaving them. 2) I think she was playing it safe. She waited until they were all separated so she could pick them off one by one. I mean, they've shown themselves to be tough and resourceful. One of them is trouble enough, so I think she tried to minimize the danger to herself and her peons, though obviously she'd sacrifice a peon to save herself. Anyways, interesting movie, forgotten how many people were in it.
