TV commentary:
12 Monkeys- Heh, this show is too effin clever. But let's start from the beginning of tonight's set of eps. The team goes back to the Wild West, where they discover Eliot there. Well, first Jennifer clues them in on the anachronisms in the town they're in- some subtle, like the whiskey being from 1972, or the pianist (Eliot!) playing things like Oingo Boingo and the Knight Rider theme, to the more overt, guys with a iwatch under their sleeves packing glocks.
Anyways, they find out they're at one of the camps Titan was being built. So Hannah splinters here father back to the future where the Joneses have a family reunion and Katarina gives him a quick history lesson on all the messed up stuff that happens from building Titan.
Meanwhile, Jennifer (whom Cassie figures out lost her Primary abilities, and understands why she kept it quiet, out of fear they wouldn't want her around anymore) is met by a Native American warrior who was expecting them. He uses the red herb to see the Primaries, and Jennifer wants to use it herself, missing the voices inside her head.
He warns her she can't though, or Olivia will discover where they are and learn about the weapon. But, Jennifer can't help herself, so Olivia finds all that out, and sends Deacon after them.
Eliot also splintered back with Hannah, they decide to try and blow up Titan so it couldn't be weaponized, though they had to know it wouldn't be that easy because of the weird paradox it would cause. Deacon stops them, and kills Eliot (poor Hannah barely gets to spend time with her father!) But his death is not in vain. He gives her a thumb drive with all the notes he has on Titan.
Anyways, while deciding what to do next, Katarina reveals that she's dying. Its good to see her taking the lessons she told her younger self to heart. That bit of honestly gets the other to trust her enough to stop keeping secrets.
Also, we find out that Eliot's lab assistant is secretly Olivia's daughter! Also, Cole reveals his mom's name was Marion, which is where his dad got that story from. So Jones finds his birth certificate and it lists her full name as Marion Woods. Which, given we saw a lady leaving a baby in the woods last week, is this some clever word play? Was the baby him and not Olivia's daughter?
In the second ep of the night, we get a bunch of fun time shenanigans, or as Jennifer calls them "oops loops".
So Jennifer finds an old murder scene with the phrase "climb the steps, ring the bell" scrawled on the wall. They dig up a crime report saying the dead were Soviet spies looking to buy a weapon. So, Cassie and Cole go back in time to check it out. They're hesitant to just go in, worried its a causal loop where they killed those guys. But then they hear a commotion from inside and go in, only to find the guys dead already.
But, they do get a call from the seller, and set up a meet at the Emerson. Cole says he'll handle it himself, since the fact that future him is still around means he can't die, which is a pretty risky assumption to make. So Cassandra gets ready to leave, only she see pallid man's dad heading upstairs. (also of note, she gets a weird headache, and the show is too loud about a background conversation where some lady is pitching a fit over a stolen jacket.)
She tries to confront him, but she's outnumbered. He has his guys take her outside, while he goes to handle Cole. She manages to escape, and makes it to the room (again of note, a tray falling off a cart as she gets there) only to find the seller dead and Cole on the ground. At first she thinks he's shot, but he's been poisoned.
So, she goes back in time to get them to send her earlier to stop it. And this is where the ep gets clever as shit. They can only send her back a few minutes. Now, we know something hincky was going to happen because of the headache and the lady. She heads up and warns Cole, but he doesn't want to leave because they need the weapon. He's confident that now that he knows what will happen, he can stop it.
Only when Cassie goes away for the second time, she approaches the elevator, hoping to ambush Pallid man's dad. She gets ready to shoot as soon as the door opens, only young Pallid Man sneaks up behind her and knocks her out. Which takes us to the first oops loop. The 12 monkeys folks come in, Cassie #2 held hostage. And we find out how Cole was poisoned- Pallid Man's dad was interrogating them by feeding them a poisonous flower developed by Pallid Man.
Cole has no choice but to tell them where the weapon is (the seller had said it was down in the bar with his colleague), and tells them to give the one cure to Cassie. So heh, they made another causal loop!
Back in the future, Jennifer wonders, what if Cassie's plan doesn't work. They read the file and something rings familiar about the write up. Sure enough, it was written by Robert Gale, who survived 1963. Heh, the Primaries had visions of him getting shot, but he proves he's pretty clever by wearing a bullet proof vest. (Heh, we see him get up all, "Fate, my ass!" Don't get cocky, kid!) So he's alive to be contacted by Jennifer to meet several hours earlier.
She tells him what's going on, and they watch the dead guys (well, not dead yet) hoping to follow the 12 Monkeys guys after they leave. Only, Jennifer gets tired of waiting and goes to just talk to them, figuring, the Monkeys will kill them anyways. Heh, but turns out she started a causal loop of her own, as they draw on her, so Gale has no chose but to kill them.
So it DID end up being them all along. So, they have to write the phrase on the wall in order for Cole and Cassie to come back there, and during the set up, they knock over a lamp, which as we saw, prompted Cole and Cassie to come in.
Anyways, with that being a fail, Gale gets an antidote from the FBI for Jennifer to give to Cole. She arrives just as Cassie #2 having just been cured, is standing over Cole trying to figure out how to save him. Jennifer gives her the antidote, only Cassie can't actually cure him until her past self shows up to find him dying, so she can go back to the future and set this whole loop in motion.
Cole tells Jennifer to get the weapon, and she makes it out in time to narrowly avoid being seen by Cassie #1, knocking the tray over the first time around.
Jennifer is too late though, Deacon having gotten the weapon. She gives him the puppy dog eyes all, why is he doing this? But then he tells her he's exactly where he needs to be, giving her a wink and singing "Don't You Forget About Me" as he walks away. So, he hasn't totally betrayed them, he's possibly a secret double agent?
But yeah, in the alley, Gale confronts Zalmon, killing him (with Zalmon, who knew this was coming, telling young Pallid Man that they'll see each other again in the Red Forest) Then he and Jennifer go upstairs to talk to C and C.
They get frustrated that this thing ended up being a wash, but its not- Cole mentions the seller got the weapon from the Ahnen Ehrbe. So Gale says, what if the Nazis accidentally found the weapon while looking for magical artifacts.
And so they plan to go back to try and get it from the Nazis. Though Jones tasks Hannah with doing some other secret mission.
Also, the ep ends with a flashback to Zalmon having a talk with Cassie in the hotel. So Cole and Cassie had been talking after coming back, how they always have to choose between saving themselves and the world. Only Zalmon tells her, what if you didn't have to make choices like that anymore? She could not have to worry about it in the Red Forest. And alas, she sounds receptive to the idea!
