TV commentary:

TWD- For someone who is a self professed coward, Eugene has some pretty big balls! I mean, since he has a fresh slate with the Saviors, he falls back on the whole "scientist who worked on some top secret government stuff" story. But then cutting in line and being all, "Well, Negan just appointed me Chief Engineer, so you give me what I want, or else take it up with him!" That's freaking ballsy!

Honestly, I don't think you can fault Eugene for joining up. He's a survivor, and he's just doing what he thinks needs to be done to survive. Like, he was expecting torture and shit, but he gets his own private room, special privileges, video games, Negan's wives to provide (albeit non-sexual) company. In the end, Negan is going to get what he wants out of Eugene, so Eugene chose the road that doesn't involve getting tortured.

Negan's wives call him a coward for not helping them poison Negan, but what would they have him do? Its like Verbal in Usual Suspects said, you're going to shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss? He just saw Negan toss their freaking doctor in the furnace! So even though he is now the self proclaimed chief engineer, there's a limit to how much Negan will allow, no matter how useful one is. And dude, Rick and crew were hardcore, they were all pretty bad-ass. And Negan shut them down like they were nothing! He's seen first hand what happens if you try to stand up to Negan.

He's being pragmatic. Heck, he's even trying to be all neutral about the situation. Negan was pretty horrible to them, but he says, to be fair, Alexandria did murder a few dozen of his men, some in their sleep, as a preemptive form of self defense, kill them before they us sort of thing. So Alexandria doesn't exactly have the moral high ground. Like there are lines they won't cross, but neither are they totally innocent.

So to him, Alexandrians, Saviors, it makes no difference to him. He's been treated pretty cushily, what's he going to do, refuse? And he doesn't have a moral conflict just yet. Like, he's given Negan a few ideas on how to protect the compound from zombie attacks, but its not like he's been asked to attack his friends, or make weapons to use against his friends. When that happens, we'll see where he stands, but for now he's making the best of his situation.

But weird, I though the note was slipped under the door by Jesus, since he was the one waiting outside for Daryl. Did he work with Sherry? Did she secretly escape on her own when Daryl and Jesus got out of there?
