TV commentary:
Legend of Korra- Seriously, Mako? So it turns out not all of Korra's memories returned, so she totally forgot she and Mako broke up. And the dick doesn't bother correcting her, much to the chagrin of Asami, who is literally fuming that he's hiding the fact they kissed from Korra. I'm surprised she didn't call him on his shit.
Still, I'm glad to see he was vindicated, and Bolin got to be an actual hero. Since the President still refused to send help, Varrick stages a kidnapping attempt by the Northern water tribe. But, Bolin stumbles upon it, saves the President, and kicks the attackers collective asses in front of everyone, making him a bonafide hero.
The attackers quickly give up Varrick, so he's in jail, Lin apologizes to Mako and gives him kudos (not nearly enough of either though, considering!). That's when Korra and Aang's kids show up telling everyone of Unalaq's plans. Its amusing, because even though Varrick was doing bad things to get Republic City support, Unalaq was still definitely a bad guy and getting the Republic Army after him wasn't a bad idea.
Anyhoo, despite Korra's warnings, the Prez still refuses to send help, because if bad things do happen, the army is needed at Republic City. Which is kinda ridiculous, because if he sent them, they might not have to protect the city in the first place!
Amusingly enough, Team Avatar ends up going to Varrick (who's now in jail) anyways, who gives them his battleship, Zhu Li, named after his assistant. They head to the south, where Unalaq had just wiped out the resistance and soundly defeated Korra's pops. They drop off Jinora with Katara to keep her body alive until they can rescue her spirit.
As they try to figure out a plan of attack, Bumi keeps on telling crazy stories, which Tenzin has no patience for, given is daughter is friggin dying. But, one of his possibly tall tales inspires Asami to attack from above, since they have a plane and Oogi. The Northern army is prepared, and they have a shitload of spirits backing them up. Team Avatar has a good showing for themselves, but they're still defeated and captured, save for Bumi.
With Bumi still free, he actually manages to sway a spirit with his flute playing, making him think he can do that for the rest of the spirits. I was hoping it would work so Bumi could prove to Tenzin he isn't a crazy fool. It doesn't, but in the chaos of fleeing the angry spirits, he manages to wipe out the entire camp and rescue Team Avatar.
Asami takes Korra's dad back to her mom and Katara to heal up, while the rest of them plunge into the portal. Aang's kids search for Jinora, while Bolin and Mako hold off Unalaq while Korra tries to close the portal before harmonic convergence. She fails, Vaatu's free, and the world is plunged into a weird sorta darkness (or rather, purple tones)
Interesting though, Unalaq's plan is to merge with Vaatu to become a dark avatar. He thinks his will is strong enough to overcome Vaatu and bring true balance. Obviously, he's crazy and Vaatu will overcome him, but that's for next week.
