TV commentary:
Legend of Korra- How are Mako and Korra a couple? Its like, she doesn't even seem to like him, as she's always screaming at him since he apparently can't seem to do anything right? And why does she need a man anyways? If they're going to be terrible at this relationship stuff on the show, why bother with it? I think you can dump that aspect and the show would still be fine.
I don't trust Korra's uncle. I mean, the whole, the South has gotten sedentary and forgotten the old spiritual ways, sounds wise, but part of me thinks he's manipulating things to make himself look the good guy in all this and get Korra under his thumb. Its all weird anyways, because Tenzin and her dad are all "you can't learn the spiritual ways!" Like the dark spirit attacks, they aren't able to defeat it by force, but Unalaq does something all peaceful and spiritual, and sends the spirit away. Which makes it seems like he does have things to teach Korra. I mean, I can understand Tenzin wanting Korra to better master her airbending, because she still is hot headed and doesn't seem to have the right mindset to truly master airbending. But its not like her uncle is trying to teach her "shortcut" techniques, or something even opposite of the mindset Tenzin is going for. Like Unalaq's wanting to teach (if you can trust him) seems all peaceful and non-aggressive.
Its like, there is definitely a threat from the spirits, and her uncle is wanting to show her techniques to stop the spirits, but Tenzin is all, "Naw, let the spirits continue to kill people in the seas, you should tour the air temples!"
Of course, as usual Korra is all bitchy about it. Though on the other side, Tonraq and Tenzin aren't giving Korra a good reason not to learn under Unalaq, other than, because we say so! And its not like Tonraq can even prove he knows better, after telling the story about how he was actually exiled from the North (a fact he kept secret from Korra all her life), it does seem like Unalaq is in the right (even though like I said, I'm still suspicious of him) He like ended up destroying that sacred forest in the north, and then he's like all, "don't make the same mistake I did by going to the South pole!" His mistake wasn't entering that sacred forest, it was wrecking the place!
But yeah, Korra fixes the Southern lights- and it looks like I was right to not trust Unalaq. A bunch of Northern naval warships show up, and he's all, "We're getting the Southern tribe back on the right path, but its going to take more work!"
Owel, interesting though, it looks like Tenzin's kids are getting something to do besides just being little moppets, what with Jinora having weird experiences in the temple. Bolin still is the punching bag comic relief, but hey, he puts the moves on Unalaq's daughter (heh, his twin children are creepy) and she makes him her boyfriend. Heh, Aubrey Plaza is an appropriate voice for the character. For a second there, with the little screen time Asami had and her asking him to be her assistant, I was thinking maybe they were trying to put them together.
And hey, we meet Tenzin's siblings, Bumi and Kya. Heh, they really do pick on their little brother. And Kya seems like she might have been hot when she was young.
