Comics commentary:

The Walking Dead #100- So, finally got around to reading this. I'll admit, since this came out while I was on vaycay, I ended up getting spoiled for what happened. Even so though, I was still not prepared. Like seriously, that has got to be one of the most horrifying things, I've ever seen in comics, ever. And I've read most of the Crossed stuff! Maybe its because in that series, you know everyone there is most likely effed (a lot of times, literally, with things, that putting it gently, are not compatible), its just a matter of when. In the Walking Dead, you've gotten to know the gang, and while folks die in this comic all the time, some have survived a long time, so its all the more shocking when they finally do go out.

And I forget, its those "survivors" who go out the most horrifically. This will definitely go down as one of the most memorable moments in the series, I think.

So, what happened? The Negan catches Rick and the gang on the way to the Hilltop. 1) Why the hell do they take one person watches? 2) Rick and the gang have gotten cocky. I guess its because they've survived so much, and they made short work of so many of the Negan's men already, they weren't expecting to be attacked. Well, and not win, that is.

Its totally amusing how almost meta the Negan was being, as if he was creating a story out of all this. I mean, not choosing Carl because the kid's missing an eye and even he can tell Carl's so hardened he's practically a serial killer in training, and he wants to see how the kid turns out? Then going to Rick, and seeing just how grizzled a veteran Rick looks like, with the missing hand. And he even gives them props, knowing they must've survived a lot. Rick's practically a legend, and killing him what just make him more of one. So, not wanting to martyr Rick, he has to choose someone else to be made an example of.

And Glenn drew the short straw. Shoulda seen it coming, what with him all positive and talking about moving to the hilltop and living some safe new life. So, the Negan bashes Glenn's skull in with his barbed-wire baseball bat Lucille so hard his eyes pop out. And then he proceeds to hit Glenn until his head is literally paste. No, really, we get to see it in all its gory detail. Like seriously, WTF?!

Was it necessary? I dunno. But it'll definitely stick with the readers. I'm not sure this will break Rick like the Negan wants it to. Rick doesn't seem like the laying down type. Maybe he should've killed the Negan right then and there. Yeah, his followers would've prolly killed them all horribly. But guys like this, he was prolly just holding his men together by sheer force of will. With him gone, his gang would most definitely fracture. And if any of the good guys survived, if the community weathers the coming attack, Rick will have become a legend, a martyr, and his people will use that to rally behind and wipe out the rest of Negan's men, which would help the greater good.

But like I said, Rick would prolly be fine risking his own life to take down the Negan, but not Maggie, Carl, Sophia, Michonne or Heath's. Honestly, even if he does manage to break Rick, its like be careful what you ask for. He wants to see Carl's story, I think Carl would eventually get his vengeance on the guy if the Negan defeated Rick. But, I don't think the comic would go that direction, mainly because such a narrative seems like it would take a long time- the kid doesn't avenge his parents immediately, it takes years. And the comic wouldn't do a crazy time jump.

Maybe I'm wrong, and this is finally too much for Rick, since Glenn has been around in the comic the longest after Rick. He just lost Abraham like the day before. Perhaps he will think the Negan and his men are too powerful, that its not worth it. But like I said, I find it hard to believe Rick would just take it lying down, after going through all they have. Rick and his people aren't like the other folks the Negan has been pushing around, they're hard, I can't see them being cowed, even be something as horrible as this.

Of course, as much as I enjoy this comic, part of me wishes it would end. Its like, where is there to go? A good day is basically them not dying horribly. Its all just so depressing when it seems all that's coming is more horrific deaths, maybe they get revenge for those, and those that survive will only have the next enemy to deal with, who will kill more of them, lather, rinse, repeat. Its just so emotionally taxing.

Speaking of emotionally taxing, Fun. has a new video out for their latest single, Some Nights:

I think I've said before on here that I really like this song, and how it gives me feels, and the video only more so. Sure, the one guy didn't have some lady waiting for him, but he had a good life back home, a nice farm, horses. Its prolly as good a life as anyone could hope for back then. And just to see that one point where his face crumples in awe over the beauty in this world in the flashback, only to get killed by the other guy is just so sad.

I know, you're thinking, what are you, that one chick in Mean Girls who doesn't even go there:
